WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama has issued a major disaster declaration for four counties of northeastern Kansas hit by flooding in June and July.
Friday’s declaration applies to Atchison, Doniphan, Leavenworth and Wyandotte. All four are located along the Missouri River, which rose to historic levels this year.
The declaration makes federal funds available to the state and some local governments and nonprofit groups to help cover the costs of emergency response and repair or replacement of facilities damaged by flooding.
