HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) – A time capsule buried in 1911 revealed clues to a bygone era in Hutchinson.
More than 250 people attended a ceremony Monday when the copper box was opened. It had been placed in the cornerstone of what is now called Memorial Hall on Sept. 26, 1911, with President William Howard Taft presiding over the ceremony.
The time capsule’s contents included a small Bible, one-cent coins from 1907 and 1910, some Hutchinson newspapers, history books and postcards of older Hutchinson buildings.
The time capsule’s contents will go on display in April 2012 at the Reno County Museum. Museum officials are looking for items for a new time capsule to put into the cornerstone.
