Revenue Secretary Eyes Kansas Tax Changes

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Kansas Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan says a task force is nearing completion of recommendations to be presented to Gov. Sam Brownback for modifying the state’s tax code.

Jordan tells The Associated Press the proposal will take a broad approach to reducing taxes and putting more money in the pockets of the highest possible number of Kansas.

Jordan, a former Republican state senator, declined to say which taxes would be reduced. He did restate comments he and Brownback have made about reducing marginal tax rates, including income taxes, to grow the economy.

The secretary said the Kansas economy remains fragile despite six consecutive months of revenue growth. He says the tax plan will come before the 2012 Legislature when it convenes in January.
