Hudson Post Office Closes Saturday

The Hudson post office closed it’s doors Saturday, although the Postal Service says the closure is not final.  A letter sent to postal customers by Hutchinson postmaster Mark Kerschen says the closure was required because acting postmaster Tracy Deighton is needed in her previous postion as a rural carrier in Macksville.

In the meantime, postal customers who receive their mail through post office boxes will have to erect rural boxes near their homes before November 4th.  The post office will come out and place flags and instructions at each location showing where the box needs to be located and other requirements for rural carrier service. Customers who wish to obtain post office box services will have to do so through the Stafford Post Office, 13 miles away or the Great Bend Post Office.

The Hudson post office was on the list of locations that could be closed but in his letter to customers, Kerschen stated that the reason for the closure was the relocation of Deighton to the Macksville office.  The final decision on whether the office will re-open or not will be made when a discontinuance study is completed.
