He was a 1941 graduate of Claflin High School. He earned a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1948 from Indiana University. He then owned Kerbs Grocery in Great Bend with his father for many years. He sold the store to become sales manager for Chevron Chemical Corporation.
He married JoAnn Pundsack on August 4, 1951 at Great Bend, Kansas.
He was an active and supportive member of St. Stephens Catholic Community, Oviedo, Fla.

Six Grandchildren: Kevin Kerbs, Megan Kerbs, Brian Urrutia, Laura Urrutia, Colin Lane, and Zachary Lane
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Kerbs.

Inurnment: Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard
