We’ve now wrapped up the holidays and it’s off to a new year. I sincerely hope your Christmas and New Year activities went well.
When I married my wife Darlene almost 15 years ago…she warned me about a couple of things. One was that her kids loved sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top. I thought…no problem…so do I. Then she said that more times than not, she manages to burn the marshmallows which has become sort of a family joke and tradition.
I’m here today to report she did not let us down on Christmas day. It started with the smell of smoke…followed by foot and a half flames flying out the oven door when it was opened. Fortunately, no harm done and no injuries. Just had to…scrape off some of the burned marshmallows. Now you’re probably thinking…Rick…you shouldn’t be talking badly about your wife’s cooking. Trust me…my wife is one of the best cooks you’ll ever meet. She could give any fine restaurant a run for their money.
This year was just exceptionally funny…and some family traditions happen whether you want them to or not. Let’s just say…no one fell into the Christmas tree…and proof of this story is on the Great Bend Post. I love you Darlene…and am developing a fond taste for…Cajun sweet potatoes.
I’m Eagle g.m. Rick Nulton wishing you all a Happy New Year!
