Chiefs prepare for mirthless home finale vs Colts

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Arrowhead Stadium hasn’t been much of a home-field advantage for the Chiefs lately.

Kansas City must win its home finale Sunday against Indianapolis to avoid having a single home win over the course of a season for the third time in five years. Prior to that, the Chiefs had won more than once at Arrowhead Stadium every season since 1977.

Kansas City is a combined 12-27 over the past five seasons, a winning percentage of .308 – well below the Chiefs’ success rate of better than 57 percent at their 40-year-old home.

Empty seats have been multiplying with every loss the past two seasons, too. While the Chiefs’ average home attendance remains 69,304 – good for 13th in the NFL – it also represents just 90.3 percent of capacity, better only than six teams in the league.

The Outlook of Gas Prices

Gas is under three dollars. For now. Overall, many individuals are wondering how long it will last. According to President of Zip Stop, Joey Zimmerman, the immediate outlook on gasoline is somewhat dependent upon the “fiscal cliff”.

As for how prices have come to be where they are, Zimmerman says that supply and demand as well as competition have caused it to go down. Overall, Zimmerman says that the thought is that the American people are burning less gas than they were before because inventories are going up on it.

Jayhawk Conference to split into three divisions

The Jayhawk Conference will have a new look next year for basketball after college presidents approved a change that will split the 19 community colleges into three divisions next season. Starting in 2013-2014, there will be a West, East and East Division II.

In the new alignment, Butler Community College will move from the West to the East, while Highland, Johnson County, Kansas City and Fort Scott form the new East Division II.

The realignment process started this year when Fort Scott and Kansas City announced their intention to move from NJCAA Division I to Division II which meant that four teams in the East would be playing at the Division II level.

The West will now have eight teams including Barton, Hutchinson, Pratt, Cloud County, Dodge City, Garden City, Colby and Seward County. The East will be made up of seven teams including Butler, Coffeyville, Cowley, Independence, Allen, Labette, and Neosho County.

Northwest Tech will remain an independent in Division I basketball and will be seeded on the East, meaning the current post season format will remain in place.
