He married Lillian E. Wright October 5, 1933 at Newkirk, Oklahoma. She died February 24, 1991. He then married Esther Mapes in 1998. She died January 15, 2003.
He was an engineer for Boeing and also worked for Beechcraft.
Mr. Bortz was a La Crosse, Kansas resident since 2011 coming from Sun City, Arizona.
He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed landscaping and growing fruit trees.

one step-granddaughter: Cassandra Mendez of AZ
He was preceded in death by two sons, Brent Bortz and Lynn Bortz.
