Vern Arlyn Steffen

Larned – Vern Arlyn Steffen, 83, passed away September 12, 2014, at his home in Larned.

He was born June 18, 1931, in Burdett, the son of Clarence O. and Jessie L. Whaley Steffen.
A lifetime area resident he was a farmer, a real estate agent for 24 years and real estate appraiser for 12 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Larned. He was born and raised on the farm north of Burdett, where he lived for 41 years, he served in the United States Army, spending 17 months in Korea, was a professional pilot for 3 years, was a John Deere Dealer for 6 years and a Pawnee County Commissioner for 12 years. Vern loved to travel and has visited fifty countries or islands.

On March 30, 1952, he married Ruth I. Kasselman in Zook, Kansas. She passed away February 1, 2012.

Survivors include: two sons, Tony Steffen and wife Christin, Wichita and Craig Steffen and wife Janice, Olathe; a brother, Duane Steffen and wife Shirley, Hays ; a sister, Arlene Henley, Birmingham, Alabama; five grandchildren; one great grandchild and a special friend Lillis Stambaugh, Larned.

Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned, with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett with Military Graveside Rites.
