IRVIN E. BURTON

             Irvin E. Burton, age 87 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at his home in Great Bend on Sunday morning, November 9, 2014.  Irvin was born on July 29, 1927 at rural Hoisington, Kansas to Walter and Myrtle (Bradshaw) Burton.  He was a US Army Veteran and was united in marriage to Betty Jo Byerly on September 24, 1988 at Great Bend, Kansas. Irvin was a Route Salesman for Dr. Pepper, Schlitz Beer, and Guy’s Potato Chips for many years until his retirement, and worked several part-time jobs after he retired.  He was a member of American Legion Post #180 and a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3111, both of Great Bend, Kansas.  Irvin was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kansas.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, antique John Deere tractors (he restored two to parade-quality), and he dearly loved his dog, Molly.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Burton of Great Bend, Kansas; two sons:  Kevin (and his wife, Annette) Burton and Kelly (and his wife, Colleen) Burton, all of Great Bend, Kansas; two stepsons:  Galen C. Lloyd and Richard K. Lloyd, both of Great Bend, Kansas; two daughters:  Kathy (and her husband, Allen) Petz of Hutchinson, Kansas and Debra Ficken of La Crosse, Kansas; four step-daughters:  Cathy (and her husband, Arne) Apeland of Denton, Texas, Lawanda Ritchie of Fort Worth, Texas, Penny (and her husband, Kerry) Murray of Great Bend, Kansas, and Pamela (and her husband, Johnnie) Hibbs of Burkburnett, Texas; 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Wright of Topeka, Kansas.  Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Carolina R. Burton on February 7, 1986), and his twin brother (Ivan Burton).

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 14, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kansas with Rev. Don Paden officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Great Bend City Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Veteran’s Honor Flight Program.  Online condolences may be left and a complete obituary notice may be viewed at https://www.charterfunerals.com/obituary/chgb.
