Velma H. McMillin

Velma H. McMillin, 90, died December 4, 2014, at Via Christi Hospital, St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 20, 1924, in Melvern, Kansas, the daughter of Oscar and Hazel (Goldsmith) Beck. A resident of Hoisington since 1940, Velma worked as a florist for many years and she was also the co-owner of Trinkets and Treasures an antique shop in Hoisington. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hoisington, the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and the Grand Cross of Color. Velma was an avid sports fan cheering for the Chiefs, Kansas University and the Green Bay Packers.

On November 30, 1940, she married H.D. McMillin in Ottawa, Kansas. He died July 23, 1993.
Survivors include; daughters, Alyce Chambers and husband Mike of Hoisington, Arlene Lewis of Viola; daughter-in-law, Crista McMillin of Wichita; son-in-law, Mike Aylward of Hoisington; siblings; Ione Monroe of Osage City, Irene Sattler of Newton, Russell Beck of Emporia, Anita Faulkner of Osage City; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a son of the heart, Kervin Miller and wife Liz of Pleasant Hill, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.D., son, Ed McMillin, daughter, Janice “Jany” Aylward, son-in-law, Marvin Lewis, siblings;, Freeman Beck, Oscar I. Beck, Elmer Beck, Winona Brown, granddaughter, Kathryn Chambers, and great grandson, Conner Aylward.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, with Rev. Kris Brinlee presiding. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2014, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington, Kansas.
