Dateline: Great Bend, Kansas

Luther Morgenstern, 98, died December 6, 2014, at  Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born August 23, 1916, on the farm in Russell County, the son of Sam G. and Lena (Radke) Morgenstern. Luther was a WWII veteran serving in the Army as a Private First Class, from 1941 to 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.  Luther was a farmer and a contract pumper in the oil fields, retiring in 1980.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend and the V.F.W., Hoisington.

On August 23, 1949, he married Helen Margheim in Hoisington.  She died February 11, 2008.  Survivors include; a brother, Martin Morgenstern of Great Bend.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, a brother, Ralph Morgenstern, and a sister, Amanda Morgenstern.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2014, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Galbraith, presiding. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard and American Legion Riders Flag Line. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington.
