OBITUARY INFORMATION

He married Carol Wenzel March 22, 1970 at North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dr. Smith was a Great Bend, Kan., resident and the pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church since 1972. He was president of the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists for two terms, served on the Board of Trustees for the Midwestern Theological Seminary, was a founding board member of Webster Conference Center in Salina, and helped found the Barton County Young Men’s Organization Boys Home. He was pastor at Larned for four-and-one-half years and Hoisington five years, while pastoring in Great Bend. He taught one year at Sterling College. Doyle loved God and served in obedience to his calling for forty-three years at FSBC and KNCSB. He loved the people of Great Bend and taught in his life and ministry how to know and follow God. He died as he lived, trusting God.

 

SURVIVORS

Wife: Carol Smith, of the home

four sons: Brian Smith and his wife Danielle of Lincoln, Neb., Todd Smith and his wife Taasha of Lenexa, Kan., Barry Smith and his wife Jennifer of San Francisco, Calif., and Lane Smith of San Francisco, Calif.

three sisters: Thelma Hall and her husband Lee of Pea Ridge, Ark., Patty Stertz of Bella Vista, Ark., and Darlene Smith of Jenks, Okla.

Six Grandchildren: Jett Smith, Aniston Smith, Isabel Smith, Ellsie Smith, Sofia Smith, and Baby Smith due in November.

 

He was preceded in death by daughter, Allison Leigh Smith.

Funeral Service: Saturday, October 24, 2015

Time of Service: 10:00 a.m.

Place of Service: First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend

Officiant: Dr. Rex “Peck” Lindsay

Interment: Great Bend Cemetery North, Great Bend, Kansas

Visitation:  9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2015 at Bryant Funeral Home

Memorial Fund: Judea Fund of KNCSB, in care of Bryant Funeral Home
