Dora May Cooley

Burdett – Dora May Cooley, 87, passed away June 11, 2016, at Edwards County Hospital, Kinsley.

She was born November 8, 1928, in Larned, the daughter of James Carl and Nellie Taylor Northern. A lifetime area resident, she was retired from the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Burdett and also belonged to the Women’s Bowling Association.

On June 7, 1947, she married Verle Cooley in Larned. He passed away October 11, 2003.

Survivors include: a son, Dean (Judy) Cooley, Wichita; three daughters, Verlene (Kenny) George, Scott City, Rosa (LaVern) Boese, Great Bend, Regina (Clayton) Akers, Burdett; a brother, Clarence Northern, Fairfield, Ohio; ten grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James Jr., Earl, Billie and Delmar Northern and a sister, Carlene Ziegler.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett, with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
