OBITUARY INFORMATION

Ike married Jacqueline Ann King December 18, 1948, at Plymouth Congregational Church, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Ike was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.  Ike’s educational background included a B.S. in Economics from University of Nebraska, Hospital Administration Certificate from the University of Colorado, and Oil and Gas Leasing Certificates from the Institute for Energy Development of Dallas and Houston.

From 1949 to 1951, Ike was a salesman for Seiler Surgical Equipment Company, Omaha, Nebraska.  From 1951 to 1956, Ike served as the hospital administrator for Hoisington Lutheran Hospital, being the original organizer of Lutheran Hospitals of Kansas.  Ike operated I.C. Walter Enterprises, Inc., being involved in the Dairy Queen system for 55 years throughout the state of Kansas.  He built Town and Country Supermarket, Hoisington, in 1956, and continued operation until 1976, and was active in production and leasing in oil operations, and farming.

Ike served on the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Association of Dairy Queen Operators, Kansas Dairy Queen Association, Mid-American Economic Development Commission, Hoisington Economic Developments, Landmark Savings and Loan Board, Kansas State Blue Cross/Blue Shield Board, Hoisington Lutheran Hospital Board, Hoisington Nursing Home Board, Cobb Cable T.V. System Board, United Fund Board, Barton County Red Cross Board, Barton County Community College Endowment Association, Bethany Endowment Fund Drive Board.  He was Hoisington “Man of the Year” recipient in 1970 and was a Republican Committeeman for Hoisington.  He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, where he served as chairman and board of elders, Kiwanis, American Legion Post 286, V.F.W., Williams Fund, Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity, Mid-Kansas Economic Development, Great Bend Petroleum Club, and was an Honor Flight participant,  .

One son: Steve Walter and wife Millie, of Lawrence, KS

Two daughters: Roxanne Blowers and husband Bill, of Hazelhurst, WI

Becky Steiner and husband Leon, of Hoisington, KS

Two sister-in-laws: Donna Walter and Patricia Conrad

Five grandchildren: Tiffany Mansholt (Everett), Eric Steiner (Monica), Amber Crawford (John), Randy Walter, and Ryan Walter

Four Great –Grandchildren: Ryker and Reed Mansholt and Isaac and Elijah Steiner

Adoptive family member: Marko Serafimovski

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Gerald Walter, Dr. Floyd Walter, Lyle Walter, Rev. Norman Walter, and twin Irven Walter; and by one sister, LaVerne M. Brion

 

SERVICE INFORMATION

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington

Officiant: Rev. Mark Lovett

Interment: Golden Belt Cemetery, Barton County, Kansas, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard

Visitation:     9:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial Fund: Concordia Lutheran Church or Clara Barton Foundation, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home
