Edward Allen Ruble

Dateline: Hoisington, Kansas

Edward Allen Ruble, 97, died March 19, 2017, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kansas.  He was born May 12, 1919, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of William Monroe and Blanche Grace (Clift) Ruble.

Edward graduated from Hoisington High School in 1938.  He then worked in construction

for the Works Progress Administration, helping to build Hoisington High School, before joining the Army.

A WWII veteran, of the Pacific Theater, he served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945, as Field Lineman for the First Signal Troop.

When returning home he then worked in the oil fields for D.H. Cook and Company.

Edward was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

He is survived by a niece, Jo Ann Doan of Hays; cousins, Patricia “Pat” Cook and Larry Ruble, both of Hoisington, Tom Ruble of Tomball, Texas, Henry “Hank” Ruble of Great Bend, Ellen Shanteau of St. John, Geraldine “Gerry” Carper and Mark Ruble, both of Great Bend; a great niece and nephew, Pamela Roye and Alan Doan, both of Waxahachie, Texas; and many other distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard L. Ruble and a sister, Betty J. Byers.

Friends may call 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Celeste Lasich presiding. Family will greet friends starting at 9:30 am just prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
