On Saturday February 24 at about 2:55 a.m. Barton County Sheriff’s Officers responded to a single vehicle accident in the 300 block of Southeast 50 Road.

Upon arrival Sheriff’s officers found a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck overturned in the ditch. The vehicle was operated by Tanner Swank, age 22 of Ellinwood.

The driver reported he attempted to avoid a collision with a deer when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the north side of the roadway overturning two times. Swank was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital by private vehicle.

A passenger in the vehicle identified as Colton Churchill, age 21 also of Ellinwood was not injured.

At the time of the accident Southeast 50 Road was covered in ice and snow.
