Leonard A. Finger

Finger, LeonardLarned – Leonard A. Finger, 93, passed away October 15, 2015 at his home, Larned.

He was born August 1, 1922 in Odin, Kansas; the son of Francis J. and Clara C. Demel Finger. A lifetime area resident he was an irrigation farmer and a ewe flock producer.

At the age of seven Leonard moved with his parents to a farm north of Larned. He attended his first two grades of school in Barton County and then completed his grade school education at the Gem country school. He graduated from Larned High School in 1939. After his high school years he farmed with his father doing custom silo filling and hay baling.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a Eucharistic Minister, served on the church finance committee and also the education commission; was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a former director of the Kansas Soybean Association, and a Livestock leader for the Tiny Toilers 4-H club.

On May 11, 1948 he married Agnes Ann Vondracek, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas in a double wedding ceremony with his brother Marvin Finger and Agnes’ cousin Helen Pechanec.

Survivors include; his wife of 67 years, Agnes Finger, Larned; three sons, Mark and wife Jonnie, Lawrence, Greg and wife Deanna, Belpre and Tom and wife Connie, Augusta; four daughters, Mary Ellen and husband David Vickery, Cold Spring, New York, Margaret and husband Lee Scheufler, Sterling, Susan Latimore, Larned, Julie and husband Scott Borchardt, Walpole, Mass; a brother, Francis Finger and wife Donna, Fayetteville, Arkansas; three sisters, Carolyn and husband Gilbert Urban, Salina, Catherine and husband Charles Kuhlman, Trumbull, Nebraska and Mary Lou Wheeler, Hesston; sister-in-law Helen Finger, Rozel; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; a brother, Marvin Finger, two sisters Mildred Phillips and Dorothy Cavenah, a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Finger and a grandson Garrett Finger.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Warren Stecklein officiating. Vigil Service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.
