Sister Rosalia Govert, 100, died Saturday, October 17, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend.

Born September 28, 1915 in Willowdale, Kansas, as Pauline Mary Govert, Sister Rosalia was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosena Greiving Govert. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community July 13, 1930, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1933. She celebrated eighty years of religious profession in 2013.

Sister Rosalia ministered most of her life as a teacher, and sometimes also as the principal of grades 1 – 8 in parochial elementary schools of Kansas – over 35 years in all. After her studies to become a cosmetologist she served her Sisters at the motherhouse as beautician. She was receptionist at the Art of Learning Center in Wichita and volunteer receptionist at Central Kansas Medical Center. In 1995 she retired at the motherhouse where she continued to beautify the house and dining room with her artistic flower arrangements and table decorations.

Sister Rosalia is survived by her Dominican Sisters Community and two brothers, Joseph, Tribune, KS, Julius, Cunningham, KS and one sister, Rosella, Midland TX.

Sister Rosalia’s body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 3:30 p.m., where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, with Rev. Don Bedore presiding. A wake service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery. Both the wake and the funeral will be held at the convent.

Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the convent Tuesday, October 20, from 9:00 a.m. – 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. until service time.
