Barton beats Butler 74-67… Improve to 22-4.

Dwayne Brunson posted his 10th double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Barton Cougars to a 74-67 win over the Butler Grizzlies Wednesday night at the Kirkman Center.  The 26 points equaled the Sophomore’s career high and was his 20th career double-double overall.

With the win, Barton (22-4 8-4) moved a half game ahead of Hutchinson and Cloud County for second place in the Jayhawk West, 1 game behind league leader Seward County who lost at Cloud County Wednesday nght.

Barton led 40-33 at halftime and by 13 points with 14:05 left to play before Butler (8-17 2-9) begin their comeback.  The Grizzlies closed to within 5 with 2 minutes to play but could get no closer.

The Cougars now head to Hutchinson Saturday to face the red hot Blue Dragons who have won 6 straight to improve to 20-5 overall and 7-4 in the West.  Hutch had Wednesday night off.

In other scores from the Jayhawk West Wednesday, Cloud county beat 13th ranked Seward County 77-74.  Dodge City rallied to knock off Pratt 74-71 and Colby defeated Garden City 71-66.

Lady Cougars 60 Butler 53

Barton got back to the .500 mark in conference play with a 60-53 win over the Grizzlies.  A 13-0 run that began at the 8:43 mark of the second half took the Lady Cougars from a 41-36 deficit to a 49-41 lead.  Butler (14-11 2-8) got no closer than 6 the rest of the way.

Blair Bloomfield led Barton (16-10 6-6) with 16 points while Netanya Jackson recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Jamillah Bonner led the Grizzlies with 14.

The Lady Cougars play at Hutchinson on Saturday.

 

In other Jayhawk women’s action Wednesday, Cloud County defeated 11th ranked Seward County 81-74.  Pratt kept Dodge City winless in conference play with a 51-40 victory and Garden City beat Colby 79-58.
