Thursday, the largest aircraft landed at Great Bend Municipal Airport since then-Senator Bob Dole stopped in Great Bend in the 1980’s in a 727. A 737-200 Cargo flew into Great Bend from Merced, California to refuel on its way to Columbus, Indiana. Pilot Fred Sorensen explained why they decided to stop in Great Bend.

They filled up 1,500 gallons worth of fuel in Great Bend, costing 6,500 dollars. Sorensen said they will stop in Great Bend again when they take the plane back to Hawaii where it will be used to ship cargo to different islands in the Pacific. They plan to buy 5,000 gallons worth of fuel when they come back to Great Bend in about a month-and-a-half.
