A long time Great Bend, Kansas resident, Don worked for Walnut Creek Milling Co. as an elevator operator
He served in the Korean Conflict as a PFC in the U.S. Army.
Don was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Central Kansas Association for Visually Impaired, and the American Legion Argonne Post 180, all of Great Bend.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Matthews; six brothers, Billy Dean Matthews, Walter Matthews, Richard M. Matthews, Marion “Pappy” Matthews, Claude W. Matthews, and Jack Dale Matthews; and by two sisters, , Virginia Hopp and Carrie Parsons.

Interment: Eden Valley Cemetery, Seward, Kansas, with military rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Bryant Funeral Home
