In the fall semester of 2011, Barton Community College saw an increase of 257 students, which is the 2nd highest increase out of the state’s Community Colleges behind Neosho County who had 280 more students last semester. Brandon Steinert is the Director of Public Relations for Barton Community College.

Steinert says another factor for the increase is the economic times. He says during a recession, Community College’s tend to see increases in enrollment as people look to improve their skill sets or pursue a new career. He says if enrollment does continue to increase at the college, they could add more housing at the school in the distant future.
