Larned – Gilbert G. Urban, 93, passed away February 28, 2016 at Diversicare of Larned.
He was born August 30, 1922 at Pfeifer, Kansas; the son of George L. and Margaret Schuvie Urban.
He farmed for a number of years. He was employed at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital from 1964 to 1970. He was employed at Larned State Hospital as Laundry manager from 1970 to 1976. He returned to St. Joseph hospital in 1976 as the Facility Manager and was there until he retired in 1987.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus and worked with the Pawnee County Food Bank for 10 years.
A WWII veteran, he served in Europe with the 13th Armored Infantry Division.
On August 5th 1946 he married Mary Anna Ebenkamp at Sacred Heart Church in Cunningham, Kansas. He and his wife celebrated their 69th anniversary on August 5, 2015. She survives.
Other survivors include; one son, David (Ruth Ann), Soldotna, Alaska; three daughters, Linda Urban, Lakewood, Colorado, Janice (Mike) Pardoe, San Antonio, Texas and Barbara Carveth, Arvada, Colorado; two sisters, Elma Seachris, Wichita, Kansas and Thelma Elder, Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: two sons, Dennis and Wayne; a grandson, Stefan: his parents, two brothers, Verlin and Robert and a son-in-law, Mark Carveth.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Warren Stecklein officiating. Vigil Service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cunningham, Kansas.
