Ilomay (Rusty) Williamson, Darner, 84, passed away March 13, 2016, at The Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born March 12, 1932, in Hoisington, Kansas, to Ivan and Edith Blanche (Hanson) Williamson.
Ilomay was a 1950 graduate of Hoisington Rural High School, attended Wichita State University, and later transferred to K-State University where she graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education. She later obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Western State University in Colorado.
On December 23, 1956, Ilomay married Dennis L. Darner at the First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, Kansas. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to begin their teaching careers. They later divorced. Ilomay remained in Colorado Springs, and continued to teach band for thirteen years, then fourth grade elementary for twenty-two years before retiring. She then continued to volunteer in the band/music department as needed until 2004, when she moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, to live with her sister. Ilomay was a member of the KAPA DELTA Social Society at K-State, the Future Teachers of America; a member of CSTA, CEA, and PERA in Colorado, and a lifetime member of NEA. She loved God, her family, music, teaching, and her beloved K-State Wildcats. She was an avid supporter of Kansas State University and she attended Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS, along with her sister.
Survivors include two sons: Rhett A. Darner of Deering, NH, and Rhandel L. Darner and wife Beth of Bremerton, WA; five grandchildren: Neena, and Rhett (RJ) Darner, Jr. of Deering, NH, and Levi (Mikaela) Darner of Seattle, WA, Zachary and Noah Darner of Bremerton, WA; two great-grandchildren; Pason Searles and Charles Foye both of Deering, NH. Other Survivors include: two brothers, Clayton (Teddy) Williamson of Hoisington, KS, and Gilbert (Jacque) Williamson of Hutchinson, KS, and one sister, Joy Unruh of Smithville, MO, formerly of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, KS, with Rev. Dr. Reuben Lang’at presiding. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be at a later date.
