Richard G. Bortz, 82, died May 28, 2016, at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend. He was born March 10, 1934, in Great Bend, the son of Oscar and Flora (Buehler) Bortz. Richard graduated from Claflin High School and then attended Kansas State University.

Richard was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

A longtime Great Bend resident, he had been the parts manager for Big A. Richard was also the past commander of the V.F. W. Post #3111, Great Bend.

Survivors include; a sister, Marilyn Robl of Richmond, VA, nephew, David Robl and wife Clara of Paoli, PA; a niece, Monica Robl of Richmond, VA; and a granddaughter, Samantha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Flora Bortz.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery. Friends may call 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
