GREAT BEND — Arthur Brown “Art” Cravens, 90, died Dec. 5, 2016, at his home in Great Bend. Born Dec. 31, 1925, at Granite, Greer County, Okla., he was the son of Loranzo Arnold and May Belle (Reeves) Cravens. He married Alberta May Ramsey in 1947 and moved to Kansas in 1950. Arthur and Alberta divorced in 1977 and he moved to Great Bend. He married LaRea May (McConnaughy) Ochs Aug. 5, 1978, at Great Bend. He was a welder for Great Bend Industries and Flexweight. Mr. Cravens was United States Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Mr. Cravens was a member of King United Methodist Church and American Legion Argonne Post 180, both of Great Bend. He was active in Head Start, Memories Matter Camp, singing at nursing homes and church, and was an avid gardener, selling veggies at the Locker.

Survivors include his wife, LaRea May Cravens, of the home; six sons, Russell Cravens and his wife Susan of Missoula, Mont., Daniel Cravens and his wife Chris of Harlingen, Texas, Rex Cravens and his wife Patty of Yukon, Okla., Fred Cravens and his wife Janis of Rockaway Beach, Mo., Bill Brown and his wife Julie of Basehor, and George Brown of Hutchinson; five daughters: Sheila Haase and her husband Phil of Wichita, Hope Budge and her husband Neal of Pretty Prairie, Connie Flint and her husband Bill of Lafayette, La., Beverley Brown of Great Bend, and Cheslea Rivera and her husband Frank of Hutchinson; one brother, Charles Cravens and his wife Nancy of Wichita; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lou Ann Showalter and Zandra Sue Cravens, and two brothers, Earl Cravens and Cecil Cravens.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Laurie White officiating. Burial with military rites by the United States Navy Honor Guard will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, Kansas. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
