HOUSTON (AP) – The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. increased by six this week to 1,991.

Houston-based drilling product provider Baker Hughes reported Friday that 1,071 rigs were exploring for oil and 912 for natural gas. Eight were listed as miscellaneous.

Colorado gained two oil and gas exploration rigs this week. The price of West Texas Intermediate Crude closed out the week at $79.58 per barrel.
