OBITUARY INFORMATION

Married Margaret Lee “Peggy” Holter July 5, 1952 at Great Bend, Kansas.  She died July 21, 2012.

He worked for Electra-Log, Inc. as a Sales Engineer.

Mr. Matthews was a long-time Great Bend resident coming from Salina and Belpre, Kansas, recently moving to Olathe to be closer to family.

Mr. Matthews was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Matthews was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II in Northern France and central Europe.  He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster.

Two Daughters: Shelley Rae Constant and her husband Mike of Raymore, MO

 Vicki Lee Bear and her husband Bill of Columbus, OH

One Brother: Donald Matthews of Great Bend, KS

Three Grandchildren: Wade Son and his wife Amanda of Radium, KS

           Jenny Tiday and her husband Aaron of Larned, KS

           Ryan Bear and his wife Gillian of Benbrook, Texas

Six great-grandchildren:  Sierra, Isaiah, Ethan, Hannah, Maddox, Mason, Owen, and Leah

 

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Matthews, Richard M. Matthews, Marion “Pappy” Matthews, Billy Dean Matthews and Claude W. Matthews; and two sisters, Virginia Hopp and Carrie Parsons.

 

SERVICE INFORMATION

Funeral Service: Monday, February 18, 2013

Time of Service: 2:00 p.m.

Place of Service: Bryant Funeral Home

Officiant: The Reverend Dick Ogle

Interment: Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard

Visitation:  1:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home

Memorial Fund:  Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, in care of Bryant Funeral Home
