A Kansas Judicial Official explains the next step in Longoria case

After hearing evidence in the Alicia DeBolt murder case last week, 20th Judicial District Judge Hannelore Kitts decided to bound Adam Longoria to trial for Capital Murder with the underlying charges of criminal sodomy, aggravated criminal sodomy, and attempted rape. Ron Keefover is the Education and Information Officer with the Kansas Judicial Office, and he said there are plenty of more motions that must be filed and responded to and then argued during a motions hearing which has not been scheduled yet. Keefover said the last motion will be filed by October 17th, and he thought another motions hearing could take place in mid November.

The Attorney General’s Office also declared last week that they will not pursue the death penalty if Longoria is convicted. Keefover said that if Longoria is convicted on the charges, he will receive life in prison without parole because of the Capital Murder charges. He said there would not be a sentencing phase for Longoria, but instead just a conviction phase, with a sentencing statement to follow.

After motions from the defense and prosecution are sorted out, the actual trial date will be set for Adam Longoria. Keefover said as far as he knows, the actual trial will be held in Barton County District Court.
