Larned – Cecil C. (Sonny) McConnell, 72, died April 16, 2013, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned. He was born November 9, 1940 at Carthage Mo, the son of Cecil E. and Sarah L. Moore McConnell. A lifetime area resident, he was a retired Chief Petty officer in the Navy and a retired truck driver.
He was of the Christian faith. He belonged to the VFW and American Legion. He was a Charter Member of the American Legion Riders and also a member of the Kansas Patriot Guard.
On November 30, 2008 he married Pauline Haney at St. John, Ks. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Todd, Kelly, and Brett McConnell; a daughter, Lori McConnell; two step sons, Jerry McBride, Fort Hood, Tx., Michael Tiry, Wichita; a step daughter Clarissia Tyerina, Chandler, Arizona; Numerous grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Larry and Darrell McConnell; four sisters, Delores I Harris, Sara Bernice Fell, Patricia McConnell and Clara Lineburg.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with military graveside rites. A friend, Roger Cooper will be presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9a.m to 8p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Cremation has taken place.
