Mrs. Hilton was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1958 coming from Attica.

She volunteered in the reading program at Great Bend schools.

Three sons: Douglas Hilton of Great Bend, Lyle K. Hilton of Medicine Lodge, and Rodney Steve Hilton and wife Dara of Springfield, Mo.

One daughter: Vicky Mitchell and husband Lee of Harker Heights, TX

Thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild

She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Karen Hilton, two sisters, Vada Ball and Regina Mae Hunt, and one grandchild.

Leo V. Skelton

Larned – Leo V. Skelton, 90, passed away July 16, 2016, at Country Living of Larned.

He was born February 11, 1926, in Larned, the son of Eli and Celia Weber Skelton. A lifetime area resident, he was a retired manager for Dillons.

He was a member of the Larned United Methodist Church and a past President for the Chamber of Commerce. He loved and had the upmost respect and honor for his home town of Larned, KS and he also served in the United States Navy.

On October 9, 1950, he married Leona Horner in Larned. She passed away June 23, 2016.

Survivors include: a son, Greg Skelton, Estes Park, Colorado; a daughter, Sandra Lea Davies, Queensland, Australia; one sister, Maxine Nelms, Larned; two brothers, Russell Skelton, Great Bend, Dale Skelton, Grand Junction, Colorado, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Douglas; two brothers, Bob and Glenn Skelton; four sisters, Erma Skelton, Verna Moorehead, Zesper Franz and Virginia Sallee.

Leo chose to have his body donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research. There will be no services and Inurnment will be at a later date in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence.

John Allen Zink

Larned – John Allen Zink, 62, passed away July 16, 2016, at his home in Larned.

He was born December 26, 1953 in Larned, the son of Clarence L. and Venita M. Clayton Zink. A lifetime area resident, he was an electrician and was a retired MHA at the Larned State Hospital.

He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Larned. He loved his family and enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He served in the United State Marines.

On January 22, 1977, he married Cindy Shannon in Wichita, she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Joshua (Claudia) Zink, Wichita and Jason (Sarah) Zink, Larned; a daughter, Sara Zink, Wichita; a brother, Steven Zink, Kinsley; two sisters, Pamela (Chuck) Twitchell, Larned, Kim (Todd) Teegerstrom, Larned and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Shoup.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Pastor Ryan Webster presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with military graveside rites.

Joe E. Brougher

Brougher, JoeHUTCHINSON — Joe E. Brougher, 82, died July 16, 2016 at Davita Dialysis Center, Hutchinson. Born July 5, 1934 at Great Bend, he was the son of Earl “Skinny” and Edna (Hosford) Brougher. He married Viann Pinkston March 21, 1953 at St. John, Kansas.  A long time Hutchinson resident, Mr. Brougher was a farmer, cattleman and oil producer.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife, Viann Brougher, of the home; three daughters: Toni Rice of Great Bend, Vicki Brown and her husband Bob of Houston, Texas, and Sherri Massey and her husband Randy of Manhattan; and one sister: Esther Stoss of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren, Rocky Seybert, Tim Seybert, Andi Rice, Jessica Patzell, Matt Brown, Nicole Brown, Adam Massey, Sam Massey and Hanna Massey; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patti Patzell, and two brothers, Jerry Brougher and Jim Brougher.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend with the Reverend Bones Nay, First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, officiating.  Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Alane L. Radke

Alane L. Radke, 69, died July 14, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born March 17, 1947, the daughter of Alex and Lucille (Stoppel) Steponick. Alane graduated from Russell High School in 1965 and then attended Fort Hays State College. She then worked for Home State Bank in Russell.

On September 14, 1968, she married Harlan Radke at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas. Harlan and Alane then moved to Lampasas, Texas, while he was stationed at Ft. Hood. Returning to Milberger in 1969, where they have lived ever since.

Alane worked with Harlan at Radke Implement as the secretary, but was also well known as an accomplished seamstress and made many wedding dresses, prom dresses, and most recently a Cinderella dress for the Russell High School Cinderella Musical.

Alane was a member of United Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Milberger, where she served as treasurer of the UELC Women’s Group, and was a member of the church council. She was also very active in 4-H, involved as a child, and later serving as a leader and most recently on the Board of Directors for the Midway District Extension. She was the president for the Prairie Mates F.C.E. and a member of the Senior Center and Northwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging boards. Alane was also a member of the Xi Epsilon Sigma Sorority, Russell, Kansas.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harlan Radke; and their three children, Marsha Brown of Russell, Martin Radke and wife Linnea of Milberger, and Marlana Radke of Hays; brother, Alfred Steponick and wife Sharon of Salina; sisters, Cleo Mounday and husband Don of Valley Center, Marilyn Weidner and husband Steve of Pueblo, CO; seven grandchildren, Candice Williams, Rachelle Erickson, Bobbi Jo and Beau Radke, Cheyenne Brown, Andrew Lang, and Elizabeth Radke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Lucille Steponick.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2016, at United Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Milberger, with Pastor Nancy Mitchell presiding. Burial will follow in Milberger Cemetery. Nancy Converse

Converse, NancyNancy Ballard (Johnson) Converse   1928 – 2016

GREAT BEND — Nancy Ballard Johnson Converse, 88, died July 13, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend. Born Jan. 26, 1928 at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Joseph Leo, Jr. and Mary Letitia (Smith) Johnson. She married Charles Percy Converse August 1, 1970 at Aurora, Colo.  He died August 31, 2008.

Mrs. Converse was a graduate of Great Bend High School, received an Associate of Arts Degree from Sacred Heart College (Kansas Newman College), Wichita, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mount St. Scholastica (Benedictine College), Atchison, and Master of Science Degree in English from Fort Hays State University, Hays. In 2007 she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Newman University, Wichita.

She began her teaching career at Barton County School District #3 Dartmouth School, where she taught one year and then taught three years at Otis Grade School. She then began teaching sixth grade at Ellinwood Grade School, eventually teaching high school English at Ellinwood High School, retiring after 50 years of service to Unified School District #355, Ellinwood.

Mrs. Converse was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Iota Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma International, Etudion Club, Cosmopolitan Club, Pilot Club, Radium Rangers, Great Bend Zoological Association, Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel, Barton County Community College Silver Cougar Club, Barton County People to People and Golden Belt Community Concert Association. Mrs. Converse was an associate member of the Great Bend Dominican Sisters of Peace and joined the Dominican Laity during college. Formerly she was a member of Kansas National Education Association, National Council Teachers of English, Kansas Association of Teachers of English, and Ellinwood Teachers Association. She faithfully served the Prince of Peace Parish as organist at St. Rose, member of the Traditional Choir, Lector, Liturgical Minister scheduler for more than 30 years, Pastoral Minister for funeral planning, homebound minister, member of the Justice and Peace Commission, taught RCIA classes and was a grand-friend at Holy Family School. Mrs. Converse was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include one brother, J. Leo Johnson and his wife Betty of Aurora, Colo.; two nephews, Thomas Johnson of Aurora, Colo., and Andrew Johnson of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; one niece, Ann Hahn and her husband Mike of Broomfield, Colo.; two great-nephews: Evan Johnson and Marc Johnson; one great-niece, Tara Hahn; her Brazilian son, Dr. Mauro “Mel” Horowitz of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; her Ukrainian granddaughter, Hanna Ukhal Mueller of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas H. Johnson and his wife Willene, and one infant sister.

Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Bryant Funeral Home. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, and Knights of Columbus, LaCrosse.

Suvivors include his wife: Susan Mazouch, of the home; one son: Nick Mazouch of Marquette; two daughters: Sara Delgadillo and her husband Steven of Great Bend, and Laura Mazouch of Ellsworth; three brothers: Father Charles Mazouch of Olmitz, Gene Mazouch and his wife Mary Ann of Great Bend, and Marion Mazouch and his wife Kerry of Randolph and three grandchildren: Aubry, Alivia and Adalina.

She was born September 9, 1925 in Junction City, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Nora Wolfe McVaugh. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and an avid painter

She was a member of the Larned United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, both of Larned. She also belonged on a bowling team and the ladies golf Association.

On March 24, 1926, she married Clair Kenneth Eye in Abilene. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Rod (Glenda) Eye and Tracy (Lois) Eye, both of Larned; a daughter, Cindy (Ed) Boman, Spanaway, Washington; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Ray Allgire and Teresa (Aunt Tennie) Trickle.

She worked as a hostess for Pancho’s.

Growing up in Great Bend, Mrs. Vesta returned to Great Bend in 2007, having resided in Manhattan and Concordia for 25 years.
