Coletta MeierLarned – Coletta Mae Meier, 75, passed away July 9, 2016, at St. John’s Medical Center, Tulsa, Ok.

She was born January 28, 1941, in Larned, the daughter of Ralph and Fern Atwood Ostrander. A lifetime area resident, she was a retired mental health technician at the Larned State Hospital.

On September 12, 1961, she married Joseph Meier in Larned. He passed away September 6, 2011.

Survivors include: a son, Dennis J. (Jeri) Meier, Muskogee, OK; a daughter, Deborah Danler, Larned; a brother, Kenneth Ostrander, Larned; four grandchildren, Joey Meier, D.J. Meier, Dustin Danler, Casey Danler and two great grandchildren, Lane and Emma Meier.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Donald Ostrander.

Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. She was a graduate of St. Ann High School, and attended Sacred Heart College in Wichita.

A lifetime resident of Olmitz, Genny had been a stocker and door greeter for Wal-Mart, Great Bend, from 1985-2004.  In her earlier employment, along with being a committed farm wife, Genny was a teacher for a rural school district, encompassing 5 schools.  She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz, Daughters of Isabella, and the Altar Society.  She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and above all, spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and was known for her kindness, generosity, gentleness, and devotion to her Church and God.

ST. JOHN – Daniel R. “Dan” Hampton went to be with his Lord on April 22, 2016, with his children by his side. He was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Larned, to Clarence and Wanda Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Gleason; and brother, David Hampton. He is survived by his children, Doug Hampton, Dawn Strain, Denise (Dean) Robeson and David (Pauline) Hampton; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Charles was a lifetime Great Bend resident.

He was a 1st Sgt in the United States Army, serving in World War II, 10th Mountain Division, and in Korea, as a combat engineer.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3111, Great Bend.

Geraldine Marshall

Marshall, GeraldineGREAT BEND, Kan. — Geraldine Marshall, 95, died July 4, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend. She was born Oct. 28, 1920 at Ulman, Mo., the daughter of Barney and Anna Dawson. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1944 from the University of Missouri and later earned her Master’s Degree from Webster College. She was a primary teacher for 26 years, with 17 of those as first grade teacher at Prairie School in Prairie Village, Kan. She married James Marshall on Aug. 24, 1947 at St. Louis, Mo. He died March 26, 1967.

Mrs. Marshall was a member of Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, where she served as a deacon, elder and in various other offices for fifty years. After raising her family and retiring from teaching, she volunteered at Shawnee Mission Hospital. In 1999, she moved to Great Bend and volunteered teaching reading and was a member of PEO Chapter FS. She attended First Christian Church while living in Great Bend.

Survivors include her son, James Robert Marshall and his wife Lanette of Tipton, Kan.; her daughter, Jo Ann Hildebrand and her husband Ross of Great Bend; one sister, Josephine Graham and her husband Jim of Greenwood, S.C.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Tavish (Marshall) Hall and her husband Mitch and their children Willa, Marshall and Anna of Harper, Kan.; Katrina Marshall of Manhattan, Kan., April (Marshall) Schmitt and her husband Clinton of Tipton; Alexis Marshall and fiancé Austin Thomas of Tipton; Cassandra (Hildebrand) Barton and her husband Nick and their children Macyn and Tucker of Gardner, Kan.; Elias Hildebrand of Chicago, Ill., and Collin Hildebrand and his wife Andrea and their children Georgia and Everett of Topeka. She was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Jack Dawson.
