A Great Bend resident for 59 years coming from Pawnee County, Mrs. Batchman was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters: Diane Lewis and Dortha Batchman, both of Great Bend; two sisters: Barbara Phillips of Hutchinson, and Laura Lou Rodarmel of St. John; five grandchildren: Amie Stark, Mickey Wear, Jamie Hapes, Tony Batchman and Shawn Wear; and seven great-grandchildren: Brandon Workman, Blake Ridgel, Matt Hapes, Dylon Wear, Skylar Fellers, Nichole Batchman and Kayle Baldwin.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Hapes.

She was born January 28, 1948 and then placed in the Emmanuel Deaconess Orphanage on April 3, 1948, as an act of love from her birth parents. She was adopted by the Rev. Otto L. and Dorothy (Sandrock) Zeilinger on Sept. 9, 1948, and taken home to Hildreth, Neb., to be with her big “adoctored” brother, Neal. Shortly after, the family received the call to serve Peace Lutheran Church, Albert.

She attended grades one through six at Elm Grove School, Rush County. She graduated from Wymore High School, Wymore, Neb., and then received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bethany College, Lindsborg. She moved back to Great Bend in 1989 and in 2013 retired after 20 years as a Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Venture Corporation, Great Bend.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

 

SURVIVORS

one brother: Rev. Dr. Neal Otto Zeilinger and his wife Rhonda of St. Joseph, Mo.; two nieces, Laura Hauck and her husband Troy and Rebecca Zeilinger; and one grand nephew, Nicholis Hauck.

She was preceded in death by brother, James Konrad.

David Lusk

Larned – David Lusk, 78 passed away April 20, 2016 at his home, Larned.

He was born March 7, 1938 in Beaver, Oklahoma. The son of William Lloyd and Gladys Hazel Higgins Lusk. A longtime area resident; he was a road construction worker and also threw newspapers for the Great Bend Tribune.

He liked tinkering with lawn mowers, farming and ranching and enjoyed having coffee with his friends.

Survivors include; two sons, Tom Lusk (Lorraine), Waverly, David Lusk (Kim), Beatrice, Nebraska, a daughter, Eva Stone (Jeff), Owensboro, Kentucky; two brothers, Paul Lusk (Esther), Beaver, Oklahoma and Bob Lusk (Charlene), Amarillo, Texas; a sister-in-law, Lucille Lusk, Brighton, Colorado and his significant other, Marie Brush, Larned; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by; five brothers, Carl, Levi, Jim, Lloyd and Oliver and three sisters, Effie Lusk, Florence Lusk and Reecey Tanner.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

JoAnn Brown, 68, died April 11, 2016, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas. She was born September 3, 1947, the daughter of Adolph and Mary (Demel) Gerritzen.
JoAnn graduated from Hoisington High School in 1965.
She married Lloyd Brown on October 12, 1996, in Newton. He died March 21, 2004.
JoAnn was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas, as well as a member of the V. F. W. Auxiliary of Newton.
She is survived by a sister, Evelyn Hammerschmidt, and a brother, Robert Gerritzen and wife Erma, all of Hoisington, a sister, Teresa Gerritzen of Hays, four nieces, Angela Oberle, Rosemary Sanders, Pat Dorste, and Wendy Patterson; and two nephews, Mike Spainhoward and Matt Gerritzen
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Brown, parents, Adolph and Mary Gerritzen, a sister, Mary Kaiser, a brother Jerome Gerritzen, and a nephew William Gerritzen.

Clarence F. Zecha

Clarence F. “Clare” Zecha, 84, died April 11, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born Nov. 18, 1931, on the farm near Odin, Kansas, the son of William B. and Frances (Frenzl) Zecha. Clarence served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, stationed in Korea and Japan. A lifetime resident of the Odin area, he was a farmer and a stockman. Clarence also worked for the Independent Township and served as a board member for many years.

On October 2, 1957, he married Eleanor A. Zorn, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin.
Clarence was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council #2630.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Zecha and a daughter, Sharon and her husband Mike; three sisters, Matilda Penka of Wilson, KS, Lucille Schneweis of Wichita, KS, and Doris Weiser of Hoisington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Raymond, Robert, Victor, Herman and Francis Zecha; and four sisters, Eleanor Johanning, Helen Straub, Kathleen Zecha, and Agnes Penka.

Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Don Bedore and Father Pascal Klein. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
