Anna Marie (Wondra) Oberle

Anna Marie (Wondra) Oberle, 80, died March 17, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born August 11, 1935 on a farm northeast of Odin. She was the fourth child, out of ten, to be born to Alfred & Regina (Kirmer) Wondra. She attended Holy Family School at Odin and graduated from Odin High School in 1953.
After High School she did housework for many different families around the area.
On May 14, 1957, she married Paul Oberle at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin. They lived in Claflin and had three children, Kathleen, Paul, Jr., and Karla.
When the children were all in grade school she started to work in the school lunch program, where she worked for 29 years, feeding many children. After she retired in 1999 she did much volunteering by delivering Meals on Wheels, helping at Birthday Breakfast and Senior Citizen Bingo, and was a Girl Scout Leader. She belonged to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and was a church sacristan for many years. She was also a member of the V.F. W. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul Oberle and three children; Kathleen Miller (Tom) of Lenexa, Paul Oberle, Jr. (Terri) of Lenexa, and Karla Fimple (Bob) of Wichita; four brothers, Bernard Wondra of Hoisington, Jerome Wondra and Ambrose Wondra both of Odin, and Norbert Wondra of Oregon; and four sisters, Mary Rose Oberle of Claflin, Leona Canfield of Great Bend, Theresa Schremmer, and Doris Morgan both of Wichita.
Her grandchildren were the love of her life, namely Jessica Gay (Nick), Ryan Miller, Kristin Fimple and a new great grandson, Trenton Gay.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Leo Wondra.
Vigil with Altar Society Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, at the church, celebrated by Father Terrence Klein. Burial will follow in the Claflin Cemetery. Friends may call 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Faye Dolores Alexander

Garfield – Faye Dolores Alexander, 84, passed away March 14, 2016 at Southwind Hospice in Pratt.

She was born August 18, 1931 in Woodard, Oklahoma, the daughter of Donald Wayne and Faye Githens Whitcomb. A longtime area resident, she was a housewife.

She was of the Christian faith.

On September 14, 1949, she married Schuyler Alexander in Candian, Texas. He passed away April 25, 2014.

Survivors include: a son, Michael Wallace Alexander, Woodard, OK; a daughter, Lisa Gaye Alexander, Larned; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Arnold Vance and Kenneth Wayne Alexander and a sister, Donna Louise Whitcomb.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday at the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, with Robert Sallee presiding. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, Kansas.

He married Carol Jean Sweeden September 16, 1978 at Reno, Nevada.

A Great Bend resident since 1978, coming from Larned, Mr. Fox was a street rod builder, owning and operating Affordable Street Rods.

He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict.

He was a member of Golden Belt Model Train Club, Vintage Wheels Antique Car Club, and American Legion Argonne Post 180, all of Great Bend, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Larned and the NRA.

Survivors include his wife: Carol Fox, of the home; his mother: Ruth M. Robbins of Larned; one son: Richard E. Fox of Ness City; two daughters: Christi Fox of Dorrance, and Shelby Zuniga and her husband Juan of Midland, Texas; granddaughter, Felicia Parker and her son Liam, of the home; two brothers: Ronald Fox of Seattle, Wash., and Steven Fox of Larned; two sisters: Elaine Musgrove and Susan Fox, both of Larned; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Larned – June M. McConnaughhay, 88, passed away March 14, 2016 at Country Living, Larned.

She was born May 31, 1927 in Great Bend, KS the daughter of Virgil L. and Grace Cooper Gilbert. A lifetime area resident; she was a school teacher.

She was a member of the Larned United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, D.A.R., Eastern Star, NEA and the 21st Century Club.

On July 31, 1954 she married John McConnaughhay in Pawnee Rock. He passed away October 16, 2004.

Survivors include; a son Johnny (Patt), Hastings, Nebraska; four daughters, Jayne Rucker (Cary), Burdett, Janet Norman (Bret), Adel, Iowa, Judy Sneath, Holyrood, Jill Milhon (Darin), Larned; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Larned United Methodist Church with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.

Michael Don Clark Sr.

img213Larned – Michael Don Clark Sr., 76, passed away March 14, 2016 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

He was born October 8, 1939 in Larned, Kansas the son of Richard Edward and Mildred Inez Williams Clark. A lifetime area resident; he was a car salesman and the KING of BBQ.

He was a member of the Escue Chapel, Larned and the Larned Mens Club; he loved cars, bbq, traveling and visiting with people, he knew no strangers; most of all he loved his family, they meant the most too him, he lived for his grandchildren.

On July 14, 1956 he married Kitty Ann Shepherd in the Escue Chapel in Larned, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include; two sons, Mike Don Clark Jr, Larned and Cecil Dane Clark, California; four daughters, Denise Ann Shellman, Wichita, Lois Elaine Cephus, Dodge City, Brenda Irene Tyler, Wichita and Linda Renee Upshaw, Seattle, Washington; three brothers, Wayne Clark, Wichita, Ronnie Clark and Jimmy Collins III, both of Arizona; a sister, Inez Collins, Florida; fifteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; two sisters, Charlotte Hines and Charlene Caro.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Steven Tyler presiding. Cremation has taken place.

Debra L. Murray
(July 16, 1957 – March 10, 2016)

Debra Lee Murray was born July 16, 1957 at Clay Center, Kansas to James Craig and Maxine Veda (Kopfer) Horsfall. She died suddenly Thursday morning, March 10, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, ending a life of 58 years, 7 months, and 23 days.
Deb as she was known, moved around with her family a lot during her childhood years. The family eventually remained in Kensington, Kansas where she graduated from high school.
After high school, she worked for several years as a nurse’s aide. She then enrolled at North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School and took business administration courses.
For twenty-nine years, Deb was the office manager at Hilltop Lodge. This was a perfect fit for her as she loved people, understood the art and science of patient care while utilizing her business management skills. She loved her job, the residents, and her colleagues and was always there for them.
On December 21, 1991, she married Kenneth Lynn Murray at Zion Lutheran Church and they made their home in Simpson, Kansas. For a time, they both worked at Hilltop Lodge until an accident forced him to quit. Kenneth died on September 30, 2012.
Besides her work, Deb loved life to the fullest. She was a person of genuine kindness and generosity. Her family was of paramount importance to her as she deeply loved her grandson Jerry Murray and was proud of her late stepson Joel who died in the Iraq War. Deb had many other passions which were the KC Royals, Denver Broncos, NASCAR and drag racing. She was an accomplished bowler and had many online friends with whom she played computer games. All who knew her treasured her sense of humor and unforgettable, infectious laugh.
Deb was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church and served in many capacities.
Her parents, husband Kenneth, and stepson Joel Murray preceded her in death.
Left to mourn her untimely death are her stepchildren Kelly Caballero and husband Luis of Fort Collins, Colorado, Erin MacKenzie and husband David of Indiana, a daughter-in-law Maricel Murray of Junction City, Kansas; two brothers Scott Horsfall and wife Jana (Williamson) of Hays, Phil Horsfall and wife Kerrie (Doris) of Great Bend; seven grandchildren including Jerry Murray of Junction City; nephews and nieces: Kellen (Angela) Horsfall, Kyle (Caitlin) Horsfall, Laura Horsfall and Kristin Horsfall along with many relatives and countless friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church burial following in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Church or the Wounded Warrior Project. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M.until 7:30 P.M.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

She was a 1937 graduate of Harrison High School, Harrison, Ark., and attended two years of business school at Richmond, Va. Moving to Great Bend in the 1940’s she began work for attorney Herb Dietz and Shell Oil Company. In 1959, she moved to Denver as a lease records analyst until retiring in 1974. She soon found herself working as manager of lease records for George Anderman and Dona Mohan at Anderman Oil Company, until finally retiring in 1989. She was an avid gardener, known for her beautiful roses. Following retirement, Miss Postlethwaite worked in data entry for the Arthritis Foundation. She returned to Great Bend in 2007 to be near family.

SURVIVORS

She is survived by niece, Linda Kimball of Great Bend, and many other nieces and nephews in California and Colorado. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Postlethwaite, and Johnny Postlethwaite, sister, Louise Kimball.

 

Private family inurnment will be in Jewell City Cemetery, Jewell, Kan., at a later date. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Arthritis Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.

Larned – Marie E. Roberson, 79, passed away March 10, 2016 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born April 30, 1936 in California, Missouri; the daughter of Clarence and Delora Miller Smith. A longtime area resident; she was a Homemaker.

She was of the Christian faith and was a Girl Scout Leader.

On October 19, 1952 she married Norman Roberson in Great Bend. He survives.

Other survivors include; a son, Rex Roberson (Sherry), Ellinwood; three daughters, Linda Anderson (Roger), Inman, Kathy Morgan (Jim), Wichita and Mary Roberson (John), Blythe, California; a sister, Juanita Bronson, Claremore, Oklahoma; twenty grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; a sister, Billy Jo Verdot and two grandchildren, Sherry Robinson and Chad Roberson

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Bob Yates presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.
