Ralph R. Wickstrom

Larned- Ralph R. Wickstrom, 87, passed away January 1, 2016, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation, Great Bend.

He was born June 24, 1928, in Larned, Kansas, the son of John and Lena Jantz Wickstrom. He moved to rural Pawnee Rock in 1966 where he was a farmer.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Otis and attended The First Southern Baptist Church, Great Bend.

On October 22, 1966, he married Verda Lea Thomas Mauney in Wichita. She passed away December 8, 2006.

Survivors include: a son, Mike Mauney, Pawnee Rock; four daughters, Janet Warren, Larned, Patti Cox, Wichita, Linda Haynes and Carla Adams, both of Larned; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a special friend Audrey Fry, Great Bend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leonore Rucker.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Rev. Janice Farrell presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.

A. Clarabel Price-Rohr

Price-Rohr, ClarabelGarfield – A. Clarabel Price-Rohr, 96, passed away December 30, 2015 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born August 2, 1919 in Pawnee County, Kansas; the daughter of Andrew and Clara Baldwin Irion. A lifetime area resident, she was a Licensed Mental Health Technician at the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Over 50 club, all of Garfield, Ash Valley Grange, Eastern Star, project 4-H leader for the Garfield Boosters and was a Sunday School Teacher.

On August 11, 1940 she married Lester Kenneth Price at Pawnee Rock, Kansas, he passed away January 8, 1983, on May 29, 1989 she married Isadore (Issie) J. Rohr at Garfield, Kansas; he passed away in February, 2004.

Survivors include; two sons, Kenneth (Carol), Garfield and Lester (Zhoa Ping) China; three daughters, Kay (Jim) Roberts, Aurora, Colorado, Carole (Mike) Tudor, Fairland, Oklahoma and Kathy Spillman, Miami, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by; two brothers, Russell Irion and William Irion and three sisters, Alice Schultz, Estella Pittenger and Esther Seibert.

Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.

Patricia A. (Gleason) Schartz

Larned – Patricia A. (Gleason) Schartz, 80, passed away December 30, 2015 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center, Wichita, KS.

She was born October 23, 1935 to Leo P. and Ruth G. (Schlick) Gleason in Spearville, Kansas. On March 2, 1957 she married A.W. (Bill) Schartz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hodgeman County, Kansas. He survives.

Pat was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and retired from Schaller Construction as an administrative assistant in 1997. She was an active member of the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Chapter CB-PEO and Sacred Heart Altar Society.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Bill, include two sons, Bert (Karla) Schartz, Pete (Lisa) Schartz both of Larned, three daughters, Jan (Mike) Keeley, Great Bend, Mary (Terry) Huelskamp, Andover, Ruth Ann Schartz, Gravois Mills, Missouri, a brother, Gene (Lois) Gleason, Dodge City, two sisters, Kate Schawe of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Louise Landry, Kinsley; seventeen grandchildren, Matt (Jana) Keeley, Christy (Mitch) Birt, Cindy (Erin) Beck, Beth Keeley, Emily (Kyle) Taylor, Jill Huelskamp, Leo Huelskamp, Sarah (Chris) Lohf, Meg Huelskamp, Jenny (Ben) Ramsey, Patricia (Justin) Smith, Kristin (Billie) Dooley, Bailey Schartz, Chad Schartz, Jamie (Chris) Froetschner, Lane Schartz, Mason Schartz and twelve great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Joyce Niederee, Virginia Gleason, Jane (Marvin) Bahr, and Eileen (John) Weiss.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Michael Gleason.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Vigil Service and Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Mrs. Jackson was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1960 coming from Nebraska.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken. She was a 1943 graduate of Otis High School. She attended Fort Hays State Teachers College and taught country school northeast of Olmitz and at Bazine Grade School. During World War II, Mrs. Holopirek worked in Kansas City and attended the University of Missouri.

She also was co-owner and operator of Al’s Place, Timken, for 38 years.

She was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 646 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 180 Auxiliary, and Sunflower Polka Club, all of Great Bend; the Gay Gingham Unit, Rush County Garden Club, and Feather Club.
