James A. (Jim) Bohart

Jim BohartLarned- James A. (Jim) Bohart, 80 passed away December 27, 2015 at the Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
He was born July 30, 1935 in Larned, the son of Jack and Neta Smith Bohart. A longtime area resident of Larned he was retired from the USD 495 School and as a Chamber of Commerce Manager.

He was a member of Larned United Methodist Church, Larned Noon Lions Club, Larned Booster Club, Santa Fe Trail Center Board, past secretary with the Kansas Fair Assn. and served as a Tour Guide at the Santa Fe Trail Center.

On July 22, 1956 in Larned, he married Joan Blackwell. She survives.

Survivors include: two daughters, Kathy Whitley and husband Brent, Ness City and Pam Hutfles and husband John, Larned; five grandchildren, Matt Hutfles, Larned, Emily Hutfles, Kansas City, Mo., Talicia Millard and husband Mark, Salina, Brandon Whitley, Ness City and Dane Whitley, Ness City; two Great Grandchildren, Tate Millard and June Millard; five half sisters, Judy Stewart, Nancy Hughes, Mary Lee Shanks, Sharon Collins and Sherry Oravec.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Larned United Methodist Church with Rev. Bethann Black and Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Visitation will be held Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be at the Larned Cemetery following the service.

LORRAINE  K.  MILLER  WORKMAN

 

Lorraine K. Miller Workman, age 68 years, of Larned, Kansas (and formerly of Bushton, Kansas) passed away at her home in Larned on Thursday morning, December 24, 2015.  Lorraine was born on June 25, 1947 at San Francisco, California to Harvey A. and Dorothy M. (Taladay) Mitchell.  She lived in the Colorado Springs, Colorado for the majority of her life, where she worked as a miner for the Climax Molybdenum Mine in Leadville, Colorado for many years. She also worked as a waitress, hog farmer, and seamstress prior to her retirement eleven years ago, when she moved to Bushton, Kansas.  Lorraine had been a resident of Larned, Kansas for the past four years.  After her retirement, Lorraine worked part-time as a pet groomer for Pampered Pets in Great Bend, Kansas.  She enjoyed sewing, baking, fishing, and above all, spending time with and spoiling her grandkids.

Survivors include one son, Harry H. (and his wife, Tammy) Timberman of Larned, Kansas and one daughter, Rhonda Lasha of Great Bend, Kansas; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; five brothers (Patrick, Clinton, Dale, Harry, and Thomas Mitchell) and five sisters (Nelda Ashauer of St. John, Kansas, Verla Tidwell, Carolyn Johnson, Helena Leckenby, and Betty Vigil).  Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, one son (Bradley Morrel Timberman), two grandsons (Harry Timberman, Jr. and Mark Emrick), one brother (Harvey Mitchell), and three sisters (Joyce Miller, Pauline Frase, and Ellen Robson).

According to her wishes, cremation has been chosen.  There will be no viewing or services at this time. Arlene Helen Miles, 100, died Nov. 6, 2015, at Life Care Center in Farmington, N.M. She was born January 13, 1915, in Breese, Ill., the daughter of Carl and Stella Gerfen. Arlene graduated from high school in Carlyle, Ill., and from a business college in St. Louis, Mo. She met Hugh S. Miles while in Carlyle and the two were married on Apr. 26, 1943. Together, they lived in Norfolk, Va.; Olney, Ill.; Ardmore, Okla.; Great Bend, Kan.

From 1968 to 2003 Arlene lived in Great Bend, Kan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Golden Belt Country Club, PEO, Community Concert, Progress Club, Bloomer Girls, and several Bridge clubs. Arlene enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and had a passion for gardening. She and Hugh enjoyed traveling and seeing family during their retirement. In 2003, Arlene moved to Farmington to be with family.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Hugh on September 14, 2001, one sister, four brothers, and one grandson. Survivors include one son, Robert H. Miles (Joyce) of Guymon, Oklahoma; two daughters, Janis M. Cross (Steve) of Canon City, Colorado and Jeanne G. Shaheen (Jim) of Farmington, New Mexico; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Mon., Dec. 28, 2015, at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether officiating. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the San Juan Medical Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

Robert E. Ray, 88, died December 20, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born June 17, 1927, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Ralph E. and Thelma (Frakes) Ray.

When Robert was 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII, as a Fireman First Class. After returning from the war he worked many places, but most recently as a truck driver for both the Oil Fields and the Sterling CO-OP. Robert was also a beekeeper and owned and operated R.J. Apiary.

After retirement Robert served as a councilman for the City of Hoisington and was a member of the zoning commission during the busy times after the 2001 tornado. He was a member of the local Horseshoe Club and was a 50 year member of the Masons along with being a worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In 1948, he married Wanda L. Williams. They later divorced. He then married Judy K. Nickels on December 31, 1969, in Sterling, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy K. Ray, of the home; a daughter, Debbie Laudermilk and husband Terry of Wichita; two grandchildren, Ryan Laudermilk of Topeka, and Cara Cramer and husband Dan of Wichita; two great granddaughters, Alice Cramer and soon to be expected Baby Girl Cramer; mother-in-law, Wanda P. Witt of Claflin; brother, Art Ray and wife Sharon of Siletz, Oregon; nephew, Gerry Ray of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; and a niece, Laurie Schmit and husband Gerry of Houston, Texas; and two great nephews, Andrew Schmit and wife Samantha of Columbus, Ohio and Michael Schmit of Houston.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2015, at Sterling Community Cemetery, with honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book now until Monday at the funeral home. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
