Gail Ellen Keller, age 60, passed away June 14, 2019, at her home.  Gail was born July 18, 1958 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of George M. and Carolyn Mae (Crouch) Huber.

A service of remembrance will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019, at First Southern Baptist Church Annex, 3301 19th St., Great Bend.  Please use the alley for parking.  Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Harold Herman Feldman

GREAT BEND – Harold Herman Feldman, 99, passed away July 3, 2019, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born August 13, 1919 at Kinsley to Herman & Frances (Lipoldt) Feldman. He married Clara Mae Kurth on July 2, 1943 at Ozark, Alabama. She survives.

Coming from Offerle in Oct. 1944, Harold was a Great Bend resident. He was an independent oil producer owning and operating C&S Well Service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Argonne Post 180 and KIOGA. He was a PFC in the United States Army during WWII.

Survivors include, wife Clara Mae Feldman of the home; one daughter, Deanna Thomas and husband Tom of Hays; one daughter-in-law, Jackie Feldman of Derby; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Richard Feldman; two brothers, Harvey Feldman and Lawrence “Bus” Feldman; three sisters, Evelyn Winkler, Sis Brown, Pearl Meiers; and two grandchildren, Tim Feldman and Susan Quint.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Mon., July 8, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tues., July 9, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Rev. Gary Brooks presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard and American Legion Riders Post 180. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

M. Lynne Wooster

GREAT BEND – M. Lynne Wooster, 72, passed away July 5, 2019, at the University Of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. She was born January 15, 1947 in Wichita, to Benard “Ben” & V. Marian (Ludlow) Sauer. She married Paul Wooster on August 2, 1980 in Great Bend. He survives.

Coming from Wichita in 1956, Lynne was a bookkeeper for Globe Exploration in Great Bend. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She enjoyed her family, visiting with friends and cooking.

Survivors include, her husband, Paul Wooster of the home; one grandson, Nathan Fishburn of Salina; one stepdaughter, Patricia Gottschalk and husband Gregg of Hays; one stepson, Robert Wooster of Great Bend; three step grandchildren, Shayla Gottschalk, Janelle Wooster and Jayla Wooster; and one sister, Katrina Sauer of Aurora, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas Romme; two brothers, Larry Sauer and David Sauer; and one step grandson, Shane Gottschalk.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Mon., July 8, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tues., July 9, 2019. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Joan Louise Michaelis

Dateline: Hoisington, Kansas

Joan Louise Michaelis, 84, went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2019, at Via Christi St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.  She was born July 15, 1934 at Dorrance, the daughter of Dan and Marie (Dick) Herbel.

Joan has been a resident of Hoisington since 1971, when they moved to the family farm. She was united in marriage to Clifford Michaelis on January 27, 1952, in Russell. He passed away on April 17, 2004. Joan was a homemaker until she started working for Town and Country Supermarket and the Dairy Queen, she then retired from the Hoisington School System as a baker after twelve years. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, the ELCA Women’s Sewing Club and also was a Pink Lady for Clara Barton Hospital. She enjoyed crafts and nature, she loved being with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include one son, Dan Michaelis and his wife Linda of Claflin; two daughters, Kathy Rothweiler and husband Rick of Salina and Stacy Schneider and husband John of Olmitz; 7 grandchildren, Marty Michaelis (Jennifer), Kelly Bachar (Jay), Amy Strowig, Jacob Rothweiler (Miranda), Emily Schepmann (Jerry), Molly Schneider, and Clayton Schneider; 8 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ken Michaelis of Branson, MO., sister-in-law, Peggy Blanding of Kansas City, KS; and her loving dog Chico. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford Michaelis; and brother Norris Herbel.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington with Rev Wayne Baldyga and Rhonda Templing, PMA officiating. Friends may sign the book 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No visitation will be held as cremation as taken place. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Gerald “Jerry” Lockwood

Dateline – Great Bend, Kansas 

Gerald “Jerry” Lockwood passed away on July 1, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born at King Hill, Idaho on February 23, 1935 to George and Ruth (Dobbins) Lockwood.

Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the cold war (1956 – 1958). He was assigned to both the 3rd and then the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiments.

He was united in marriage to Joan Heskett on December 16, 1960. To this union was born two sons, Kevin and Kenton Lockwood. The couple moved to Wichita, Kansas where Jerry was employed by Motive Parts Warehouse as district manager of sales for most of western Kansas. The family then moved to Great Bend, Kansas in 1971 where Jerry became an owner of Parts, Inc.

Jerry suffered a stroke on May 4, 2006, just a few months before he planned to retire. He loved the outdoors, hunting, photography, and vacationing in the Rockies. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a founding member of the Kiowa Gun Club of Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife Joan; sons, Kevin and wife Wendy Lockwood, and Kenton and wife Cynthia Lockwood, all of Great Bend; grandchildren whom he loved very much, Thomas and wife Brittany Lockwood, Ashley Lockwood, SPC Ethan Lockwood U.S. Army, Joanna Lockwood; one brother, Robert and wife Joan Lockwood of Denver, Colorado.

Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m., Friday July 12, 2019 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, Hoisington, with Rev. Don Fisher presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday July 11, 2019 at the funeral home.  There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.

Robert Wm. Bruce

Dateline – Hoisington

Robert Wm. Bruce, Sr., 83, of Hoisington, Kansas, died July 2, 2019, at home with his family by his side.

He was born January 4, 1936, in Richmond, California, to William and Henrietta (Hokemeyer) Bruce.  He married Kathleen M. Kennedy on November 1, 1974, in Ness City, Kansas.

He enjoyed visiting , going to the casino, playing cards with friends, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen; one son, Robert Wm. Bruce, Jr. and wife Teresa of Hoisington, two daughters, Helen Brown of Hemet, California, and Betty Bergman and husband Ken of Peck, Idaho; special friend, Tina Sisson; 15 grandchildren and soon to be 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Linda Walker, one son, Christopher Bruce, and one grandson, Seth Contreras.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.  Inurnment will be in Minnesota.

Irving J. Gotsche

GREAT BEND – Irving J. Gotsche, 90, passed away July 2, 2019, at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend. He was born Aug. 23, 1928, at Racine, Wis., to Irving and Ethel (Davis) Gotsche. Irv married Norma Jeanne Horsley Nov. 27, 1954, at Salina.

Coming to Great Bend in 1965, Irv previously lived in Racine, Salina, Ellinwood and Wakeeney. Graduating from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, Irv was employed as a petroleum engineer for Amoco from 1956-1958, Imperial Oil from 1958-1965, and NCRA from 1965 until he retired on Oct. 1, 1988, as drilling superintendent. He was a member of the First Christian Church, VFW Post 3111, KIOGA, API, AME and Golden Belt Community Concert.  He served his community as Panther Booster Club past president, Chamber Ambassador, Lake Barton board member, Petroleum Club board member, United Way oilfield chairman, Barton County Historical Society board member, past commander of American Legion Argonne Post 180, CKMC volunteer, youth sports coach, Family Crisis Center past board president and Great Bend Public Library board chairman. He also enjoyed listening to the children of USD 428 read.  Irv served in the U.S. Air Force as a B-29 pilot during the Korean War, earning the rank of 1st Lt.

Survivors include, wife, Jeanne Gotsche of the home; three sons, Kurt Gotsche of Wichita, Steve Gotsche and wife Linda of Manhattan, and Eric Gotsche and wife Carol of Great Bend; one daughter, Pam Gabel of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Ali Gabel, Meghan Gabel, Brad Gabel, Adam Gotsche and wife Kelsey, and Ryan Gotsche; and one great granddaughter, Collins Gotsche. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Gill; and a son-in-law, Chip Gabel.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2019 at First Christian Church with Pastor Sue Bishop presiding. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.  A private family inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery North at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Barton County Historical Society or Great Bend Public Library, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
