He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7428, Hoisington, and American Legion Post #99, Russell.  His hobby was clock making.

Carol S. Warrick, 100, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Pawnee County Community Hospital, Larned, Kansas. He was born December 25, 1914, in Blair, Nebraska, the son of Neum and Blanche D. (Peck) Warrick.
Carol was a WWII veteran serving in the Aleutian Islands with the United States Army as a Sergeant and Squad Leader.
A longtime resident of Hoisington, he was a farmer. Carol was a member of the American Legion and a 4-H Leader for the Eureka Homesteaders Club. He was a member of the former Vine United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and served the church in many ways.
On April 21, 1946, he married Lois Stoskopf in Hoisington, Kansas. She died May 11, 1998.
Survivors include; son, Ken Warrick and wife Dianna of Branson, MO; daughter, Jan Smith and husband Max of Lewis, KS, daughter-in-law, Pricilla Warrick of Chickasha, OK; three grandchildren, Sara Warrick of Spring Hill, KS, Aaron Warrick and wife Natalie of Larned, KS, and April Dodrill of Branson, MO; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Tym Warrick, seven brothers, six sisters and a great grandson.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Cariker presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington City Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Ruth Darlene Barker

Larned – Ruth Darlene Barker, 85, passed away May 28, 2015, at Diveriscare of Larned.

She was born February 6, 1930 at Viola, Missouri: the daughter of Thomas and Ann May Ryder Martin. She was a Restaurant Cook for the Don Do café before retiring.

On October 5, 1949 she married Charles Darrel Barker at Carthage, Missouri. He passed away on August 7, 1981.

She was a longtime area resident, She attended the Nazarene Church, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Larned.

Survivors include: one daughter Connie (Jerry) Goeckel, Larned; one son Freddie (Anita) Barker, Larned; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clyde, Clifford, Doc, George and Ben Martin; three sisters, Susie Penn, Gertie McComas, Gladys Veach, a granddaughter Lorie Lee and two great-great grandsons.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, at the Larned Cemetery, Larned; with the Pastor David Collins presiding. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Louis Wintholz, 83, passed from this world to join his beloved wife Phyllis, in heaven on May 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend, Kan. He was born January 30, 1932 in Collyer, Kan., the son of Reinholdt “Ray” and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954 at Hearndon, Kan. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008. Louie and Phyllis ran the Collyer gas station then worked in the oilfield industry in the Hays and Kimball, Neb. area for six years, then made a career change to Northwest Oxygen Co., where he was a truck driver. The company sold to the Jimmie Jones Co., where he was promoted to office manager. He became an independent customer service tech for First Care Home Health Service and The Medical Park Home Health Co., until he retired in 2005.

Louie was a member of Prince of Peach Parish, Great Bend. He was a talented welder, mechanic and could fix anything his children or grandchildren came to him with. He enjoyed gardening and loved sharing his produce with family, friends and neighbors. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his many acts of kindness to his oxygen customers.

Survivors include two daughters and four sons , their spouses and many grand and great grandchildren: Becky and Glen Sander, Debbie Farmer, Bradley and Joni Wintholz, Mark Wintholz, Mike and Kelly Wintholz, and Adam Wintholz all of Great Bend; grandchildren: Andrea, Joseph, Blaize and Brecken Babb , Mathew and Sara Sander, Nick and Andrea Farmer all of Wichita, Brandon, Abby, Aniston and Lily Foster, Aaron and Kim Hollister, all of Overland Park; Amy, Charlie, Paige, Ellie and Maci Lamb, Tyler, Elizabeth, Tatum, Jordan, and Cameron Sander, Heidi, Cole, Kassidy, Kylie, Keaton and Karson Wintholz and Brint Galvan all of Great Bend, and Stoughton Wintholz of Salina; one brother, Jim (Linda) Wintholz of Sydney, Neb.; one sister, Thelma Rowson, of Salina; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Carolyn and Vernon Leiker, of Gardner, Darlene Grover, of  Madison, Wisc., Jeanette Synder, of LaCrosse, Kan., Judy and Jim Niles of Bonner Springs, Bill and Lila Montgomery, Dale and Kathy Montgomery, Tom and Ellen Montgomery of Hays, and Steve and Lavana Neptune of Great Bend. Gerald W. “Jerry” Beran

Gerald W. “Jerry” Beran, 88, died May 21, 2015, at Almost Home, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born September 9, 1926, on the farm in Odin, Kansas, the son of Anton A. and Hattie Rose (Prosser) Beran. Jerry graduated from Odin High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning from the military, Jerry played professional baseball for the Hutchinson Elks.

A lifetime resident of Odin, Jerry was a farmer and stockman. He was also the co-founder of B & D Herefords, a Garst Seed Salesman, a State Farm Crop Hail Salesman, and originally built, owned, and operated the Odin Store.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. of Hoisington, and the American Legion of Claflin. He also served on the Beaver Grain Board of Directors, was a Trustee on the Cheyenne Township and had served as a Barton County Commissioner.

He loved baseball and helped coach many teams including Little League, Cookie League, Town Team and American Legion Baseball.

On October 25, 1950, he married Elvita M. Dolechek, in Dubuque, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include; five sons, Robin Beran and wife Anne of Peoria, Illinois, Gerald Beran, Jr. and wife Lisa of Odin, Terry “Tex” Beran and wife Ada of Russell, Kevin Beran of Odin, Craig Beran and wife Michelle of Odin; a daughter, Joy Hertach and husband Tim of Claflin; daughter-in-law, Kristi Beran of Odin; daughter of the heart, Jane Schreiber and husband Rick of Beaver; sisters, Viola Leach of San Marcos, Calif., Alice Dolechek and husband Vince of Dubuque; brothers, Leon “Lee” Beran and wife Judy of Emporia, Anthony “Tony” Beran of Aurora, Colo.; sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eric R. Beran; and three brothers, Gene, Joe, and Bob Beran.

Vigil with Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
