Sister Marie Klein, 102, died May 21, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters’ Convent Infirmary, Great Bend.

Born April 25, 1913, in Fowler, Kansas, as Mary Ann Agatha Klein, Sister Marie was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Helen (Hoffman) Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated eighty years of religious profession in 2011.

Sister Marie’s first ministry was as an elementary parochial school teacher in grades 1 – 6. She began her teaching of music in 1950 and continued at the high school and college of the Dominican Sisters in Great Bend until 1963. Although she also ministered in pastoral care and parish ministry in Manhattan, Garden City, and Goodland, she is most remembered for her music ministry, where at the Motherhouse after her retirement in 1994, she still played both organ and piano in the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, as she had done in hospitals and parishes while pastoral and parish minister. Even to her last days she helped the Worship Coordinator at the Motherhouse by proofreading the liturgy planning sheets.

Sister Marie is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Peace Community and her sister, Sister Marie Antoinette Klein of Great Bend.

Sister Marie’s body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, on Monday, May 25, 2015, at 4:00 p.m., where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., May 27, 2015, with Rev.
