Johnnie C. Frazier

Frazier, JohnnieLarned – Johnnie C. Frazier, 86, passed away May 12, 2015, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born April 17, 1929 in Larned, the son of Lee and Irma Miller Frazier. A lifetime area resident, he worked at the Larned Post Office for 35 years, the Fairmont Dairy and Frazier Grocery.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was on the Board of Directors for the Santa Fe Trail Center and the Pawnee Plaza, all of Larned and was a member of the Post Master Association. He served in the United States Navy.

On June 28, 1953, he married Thyra Jo Babb in Larned. She survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Jea Castrop-May and life companion, Bob Rase, Olathe and three grandchildren, Katie Castrop, Lakewood, CO., Brad Castrop, Kansas City, MO. and Aubree May, Lenexa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brad Frazier; a granddaughter, Ariel May; two brothers, Arthur Lee and Myron Frazier and a sister, Nina Marie (Sissy) Svoboda.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Larned, with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery with military graveside rites.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

She married Donald N. Blythe August 6, 1948 at Williamsburg, Kansas.

Phyllis was a member of 4-H and the Civil Air Patrol during high school. She attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia from 1946 to 1950, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Her first teaching assignment was as a second grade teacher at Coldwater Elementary from 1950 to 1951. The couple moved to San Diego, Calif., during the Korean Conflict while Don served in the United States Navy.  In 1952, they moved to Great Bend and she operated a daycare from 1960 to 1970. She returned to the classroom in 1970, teaching sixth grade at Eisenhower and Park Elementary Schools, retiring in 1985.  From 1986 to 1989 she worked at the YMCA of the Rockies, returning to Great Bend in 1990. She enjoyed spending winter months in Mesa, Ariz.

A gracious, kind-hearted soul who knew no strangers, Phyllis touched many lives during her years as a teacher. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, playing golf and cards, was a killer shuffle board player, as well as enjoyed camping and traveling.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Silver Cougar Club, and Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel, all of Great Bend, and Theta Sigma Upsilon Sorority at Emporia.

Luella “Lu” Fercking

Luella “Lu” Fercking, 78, went to be with her Lord on May 10, 2015, at Hays Medical Center. She was born January 3, 1937, in Comanche County, Kansas, at her Aunt Faye’s farm house. She was the daughter of John and Lillie Cline. She graduated from Ness City High School in 1954. She married Robert “Ray” Fercking on June 3, 1954. He went to be with his Lord October 3, 2001. They moved to Great Bend in 1968. She worked at Data Industries, Volkswagon, and the printing shop for the Tribune. She and her husband started Lu’s printing in 1981 and retired in 1997 due to her husband’s health.

She is survived by; a son, Ron Fercking and his wife Dorothy, and a daughter, Jolinda Sloan, both of Hoisington; a brother, John Cline, Jr. and wife Arlene of Wakeeney; grandchildren, Chris Fercking, Kim Fercking, Dennis Fercking, Jenny Fercking, Austin Fercking, Stephanie Fercking, Brandon Engleman, Robert Sloan, and Kelli Ramirez; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons; Delvin and infant Michael, parents, a sister, Florence Stiawalt, and three brothers, Jim, Jackie and Jerry Cline. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Great Bend, Breast Cancer Support and Grief Support Groups.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Fisher presiding. A private family burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City. Friends may sign the book today through Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Luella Fercking Memorial Fund in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, P.O. Naomi L. Converse

Garfield – Naomi L. Converse, 76, went to Heaven on May 10, 2015, at Via Christi Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born December 11, 1938 in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Vernon Henry and Ella Angela Wilson Meckfessel. A lifetime area resident, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, nana and aunt. She farmed alongside her husband, Alan, for 58 years. She loved harvesting crops especially wheat. No one touched her combine! Most of all, she loved her husband and family. Her grandchildren filled her life with joy watching them dance, act, sing, and play sports. She made family time so special.

She was a member of the Rozel United Methodist Church where she was the organist for 42+ years. She was the current president of the Rozel United Methodist Women. She served on many church committees. Creating memorable Easter Sunrise Services was one of her favorites. Naomi held many positions within the Larned Music Club. Music was a passion. She could make any piano sing.

Naomi loved taking road trips with Alan, exploring the beautiful southwest United States. She enjoyed the Red Hat Ladies, playing bridge for many years and the mischievous adventures with her traveling friends. She had many creative interests including stained glass, painting, decorating and shopping.

Naomi married Alan Converse on April 18, 1957 in Rozel, Kansas. They were married for 58 years and he survives.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Diane (Ray) Gans, Wichita, Ks., Denise (Tim) Ruehlen, Katy, TX., Donna (Mike) Schmidt, Wichita, Ks., Desni (Brad) McGuire, Overland Park, Ks.; a brother, Neil V. Meckfessel, Rozel; two sisters, Anita C. Witcher, Elkhart, Ks., and Audrey L. (Dee Jay) Hubbard, St. Louis, MO.; a brother-in-law, Kent Converse, Garfield, Ks; nine grandchildren, Gigi Gans, Katherine Gans, Rebecca Gans, Abby Ruehlen, Samuel Schmidt, Micah Schmidt, Austen McGuire, Parker McGuire and Alisen McGuire; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; brother- in- law, Dan Witcher, sister- in- laws, Linda Converse and Patty Meckfessel, nephew Jason Meckfessel and a niece Brooke Meckfessel.

Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Rozel, KS.; with Pastors Rob Schmutz and Brad McCoy presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, Kansas. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.

Married Kenneth Lowell Armstrong June 15, 1939 at Wamego, Kansas.  He died January 27, 1967. She then married Claude William Snodgrass January 29, 1973 at Scott City, Kansas. He died March 8, 1987.

Mrs. Snodgrass was engaged in farming.

Mrs. Snodgrass was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 2004 coming from Garden City, Kansas.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, American Legion Post 9, and Garden City Historical Society, both of Garden City. She attended First Street Church of God, Hoisington.

John Daniel “Danny” Dipman

DipmanLarned  – John Daniel “Danny” Dipman, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in rural Larned on May 2, 2015, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.  He was born on April 18, 1943, in Larned, KS, the son of John W. and Eldred E. (Sanders) Dipman.  He was a farmer/stockman, residing on the farm that had been in his family for over 100 years.  He had also previously worked as a school bus driver & a rural mail carrier.  He married Vicki Berglund on July 29, 1962, she survives.  Other survivors: his two daughters, Sandi Bates & husband Jeffrey Bates, Candi Parker & husband Randy Parker all of Larned.  Granddaughters Keeli Parker & fiancé Josh Howard, Larned & Kelbi Parker & fiancé Ian Harvey, Hays, his mother, of Hutchinson, two sisters, Dedria Ashworth, Arlington, KS & Cynthia Wallace, Rawlins, WY, & a brother, David Dipman, Casper, WY.  Danny had a love for the land & considered himself a steward of it with his farming.  He was a past board member of the Golden Valley Coop & Pawnee County Farm Bureau, was Treasurer for Morton Township & served on the Pawnee County Zoning Board.  He loved spending time with family & enjoyed travelling in his RV, wintering in Florida every year for over 20 years, making many lifetime friends along the way.  Funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob married Carole Annette Cronenberg September 18, 1955 at Great Bend, Kansas.  She died July 1, 2002.

Mr. Mead was a Pawnee Rock, Kansas, resident for 40 years. He built several airplanes and enjoyed flying. A builder and business owner, Mr. Mead was a public servant his entire life, serving four terms as 112th District State Representative, serving as Acting Secretary of Kansas Department of Health and Environment, serving on Governor Bill Graves’s Transition to Office Committee, and retired from the Kansas State Parole Board. He was a former mayor of Pawnee Rock, also serving on the Pawnee Rock City Council and was City Marshall of Pawnee Rock. Most recently he was elected to the Barton Community College Board of Trustees.

Mr. Mead was a United States Army veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Great Bend.

Larned – Ingo O’Rourke, 61 passed away May 1, 2015 at his home, Larned.

He was born February 1, 1954 in, Germany. The son of Arthur P. O’Rourke Jr. and Vera Ann Suchy. He has been a resident of Larned since 1985.

He is survived by two sisters, Sue Williams, Diggs, Idaho and Barbara O’Rourke, Boca Raton, Florida, and a brother, George O’Rourke, Diggs, Idaho.
