He married Donna Fay Richards December 23, 1958 at Kanopolis, Kan.  She died August 26, 1985.

He earned bachelor and master degrees from Fort Hays State University. He was an English teacher at Roosevelt Junior High and Great Bend Middle School.

Mr. Schulz was a Great Bend, Kan., resident since 1962 coming from Hays, Kan., moving to Wichita in 2005.

He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend; Knights of Columbus Council No. 7422, Lyons; Coronado Assembly of the Fourth Degree of Columbus; American Legion of Kanopolis, GBNEA, KNEA, and NEA.

She worked for Midwest Machinery and Great Plains, was co-owner of P & K Kleaners, and worked for 22 years at Portraits by Shane and seventeen years at TLC Discoveries, until illness forced her retirement in December 2011.
Mrs. Jackson was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1954 coming from Prague, Oklahoma.
She was a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and was active in the choir and handbells, and served as a soloist and on the Diaconate Board.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Mrs. Chakir was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Zarah EHU, Central Kansas Thread Benders Quilt Guild, American Legion Post 180 Auxiliary, all of Great Bend. She was a former 4-H Leader, and enjoyed her family, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and going to dances.

Kirk Dean Auston, 56, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born August 2, 1958, at Denver, Colo., the son of Charles and Shyrlee Auston. He was a 1976 graduate of Great Bend High School. While there, he was heavily involved in debate, winning many state titles and attending the National Debate Tournament. He attended the University of Kansas earning a Bachelor of Arts, Philosophy and English in 1980. He also attended Trinity College, Oxford, England, studying English Literature.

He returned to the University of Kansas and earned a Master of Arts in Philosophy in 1984, and his Juris Doctorate from KU in 1987. After passing the bar exam, Kirk practiced law in the Kansas City area for ten years. He moved to Oklahoma City, Okla., in 1998, where he was Assistant General Counsel at Express Services, Inc. After leaving Oklahoma City in 2013, Kirk relocated back to Kansas. He loved to sail, and enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, cooking, mentoring high school students interested in law or debate, and a good argument.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend.

Survivors include his son, Darden of Oklahoma City; his parents, Charles and Shyrlee Auston of Great Bend; one brother, Kenton Auston of Buhler, Kan.; one sister, Kari Sue Quinn and her husband Steve of Kansas City, Mo.; two nieces; aunts; uncles and many cousins.

Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor J. P. McCamey officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Donor’s Choice, in care of the funeral home.

REVEREND WILLIE A. “BILL” GRAY

REVEREND WILLIE A. “BILL” GRAY

 

Reverend Willie A. “Bill” Gray, age 79 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, went home to sit on the right-hand side of the Lord on March 29, 2015 at his home in Great Bend.  Willie was born on April 20, 1935 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Lee Andy and Mary Etta (Cargill) Gray, and he attended school in Hutchinson, Kansas.  He worked as a contractor for the City Highway Department in Hutchinson, Kansas and then lived in Denver, Colorado for many years as an auto detailer and truck driver.  Bill was united in marriage to Carolyn K. Jordan on September 10, 1987 in Denver, Colorado.  The couple moved to Great Bend that same year to be close to his mother and stepfather.

Bill was called to preach the Word in April of 1993 at Second Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas and was ordained into the ministry in June of 1994 under the guidance of his brother Pastor L.F. Gray. He was also Pastor at First Baptist Church in Hoisington, Kansas.  Bill loved hunting and fishing, in addition to preaching.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn K. Gray of Great Bend, Kansas; five sons:  Ralph Gray and Gerry Gray, both of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Nicholas Wagner of El Dorado, Kansas, Matthew Gray of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Lamont Gray of Oklahoma; one daughter, Taleah N. Gray of Denver, Colorado and one step-daughter, Stephanie Taylor-Jordan of Great Bend, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one bother, Pastor Leonard F. (and his wife, Betty) Gray of Hutchinson, Kansas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Lee Andy and Mary Etta (Cargill) Gray); his stepfather (Raymond Wharton); two sons (Othel Gray and Kimen Wagner); one stepson (Donnell Jordan); two brothers (Johnnie Gray and Othel Gray) and one sister (Leola Cherry).

Dorothy was a lifetime Great Bend, Kansas resident. She enjoyed NASCAR, clock collecting, genealogy, and was an animal lover.

Survivors include two sons: Dana Dawson and his wife Diana of Great Bend, KS, and Kent Dawson and his wife Kelli of Tampa, FL; their father, Charles Dawson; three granddaughters: Rebecca Dawson, Kelsey Dawson, and Karlie Dawson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Herren, and two sisters, Mary Jane Herren and Florence Richards.

A private family service will be held with inurnment in the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Great Bend Zoological Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
