Ella Marie Haberman

EllaGreat Bend – Ella Marie Haberman, 46, passed away November 27, 2014, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

She was born February 28, 1968, in Larned, the daughter of Leo B. and Ella Lou Pittinger Haberman. She moved from Larned to Great Bend six years ago.

Survivors include: her mother, Ella Lou Haberman, Great Bend.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Pastor Ryan Webster presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Edward Wayne Hesher

Larned – Edward Wayne Hesher, 86, passed away November 28, 2014, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born December 1, 1927, in Gypsum, the son of Bert and Dorris Hawthorne Hesher. He was an Accountant/Business Manager for the State of Kansas. He moved from Topeka to Larned in 1952.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Larned and was also an avid collector, attending many garage sales, auctions and flea markets.

On April 20, 1952, he married Patricia L. Turpin in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Edward H. Hesher, Amarillo, Texas, T. Thomas Hesher, Larned, Micheal W. Hesher, Estes Park, Colorado; a daughter, Sandra H. Chelcun, Estes Park, Colorado; a brother, Billy Bert Hesher, Titusville, Florida; a sister, Sibyl Netherton, Titusville, Florida; a granddaughter, Talisha Hesher, Hays.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie Bogart and two brother-in-laws, Ralph (Smoky) Bogart, and Robert L. Netherton Sr.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at a later date.

Lawrence J. Jenisch

Lawrence J. Jenisch, 73, died November 26, 2014, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.  He was born August 18, 1941, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Joseph C. and Margaret (Finger) Jenisch.  Lawrence graduated from Odin High School.  He later received both his bachelors and masters degrees from Fort Hays State Teachers College.  Lawrence was a farmer and a stockman and also a long-time teacher at the Claflin High School.  He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Kansas.

On August 17, 1963, he married Mara Kay Neill at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas.  She survives.  Other survivors include; son, Brian Jenisch and wife Jamy of Katy, Texas; daughter, Marla Gales and husband Barry of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother, Gerald Jenisch of Great Bend; sisters, Alice Cook of Wichita, Bonnie Jeffrey of Claflin, and Kathy Williams of Great Bend; and four grandchildren, Zachary Gales, Taylor Gales, Matthew Jenisch, and Payton Jenisch.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., December 2, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Kansas, with Father John Forkuoh, celebrant.  Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. just prior to mass. Inurnment will follow in Claflin Cemetery.  Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. He was a Dairy Department Manager for Dillon’s, retiring in 1983.

Mr. Garner was a Great Bend, Kansas resident most of his life.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Great Bend.

Doyle Forrest Mayse

Larned – Doyle Forrest Mayse, 64, passed away November 24, 2014 at his home, Larned.

He was born September 3, 1950 in Hays, the son of Emmett and Verna Clara Schneider Mayse. A longtime resident of Larned, he worked for the KANS Radio, the Larned Police Department as a dispatcher and Supervisor, the Great Bend Police Department as a dispatcher, the Pawnee County Sheriffs Office, the Larned State Hospital and was most recently employed with the Pawnee County Sheriff’s office as an Administrative Assistant.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Larned. He belonged to the Ham Radio Club and the Kansas Sheriff’s Association. Doyle loved to tinker with electronics and collected writing Pens.

Survivors include his many friends and his two pet turtles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor LeRoy Lyon presiding. Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 am. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday Dec. 1 and 2 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in the La Crosse Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

Bernice S. Zook

Bernice ZookLarned – Bernice S. Zook, 91, passed away November 20, 2014 at Diversicare of Larned. She was born November 28, 1922, in Stafford County, the daughter of Owen E. and Powerley Gilliland Smith. A lifetime area resident, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker.

She belonged to the First United Methodist Church, Larned, the Zook EHU. She developed a passion for cooking.

On April 21, 1946, she married Milford E. Zook in Larned. Milford passed away July 5, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Smith and a sister, Erma Estes.
She will be forever remembered by four sons, John Zook; son, James (Jane) Zook and their children Denny Zook, Jesse Zook, Jacqueline Zook, Deanne (David) Locke and Elizabeth, Carolyn (Jacob) Robison and Alexandra; son, Dean (Kathy) Zook and their children Aaron (Roxi) Zook and Conner, Holly (Stephen) Milligan and Zokora; Kelsey (Jason) Lueger; son, Dale (Beth) Zook and their children Amy (Jay) Derley and Adrianna and Dallas; Stacy (Michael) Trout and Colborn and Zavier.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook.

Harold W. Seyfert

Harold W. Seyfert

NORTH NEWTON – Harold W. Seyfert, 93, died November 20, 2014, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare Center, North Newton.
Harold was born May 12, 1921, in rural Barton County. He was the son of Fred and Carrie Arensman Seyfert. He was a long-time farmer in Barton County, raising wheat and beef cattle, as well as maintaining a small dairy for a number of years. He also worked for USD #354 for twenty years as a custodian and bus driver.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1942 to 1946, and primarily at Pearl Harbor.
On October 7, 1944, he married Evadine Thorne at Beaver Friends Church, Beaver. Upon his discharge from the service he and Evadine began farming in Russell County, and later taking over the family farm in Barton County.
He was a member of Beaver-Shannon Friends Church until its closure in the late 1990s, and then transferred his membership to the Claflin United Methodist Church. He was active in church, teaching Sunday School classes and serving on many administrative committees. His faith was very important to him.
Harold is survived by children; daughter Karen Sue DeGrazio, Newton, Kansas; son Dennis Lee Seyfert and wife Sharon, McPherson, Kansas; and daughter Cindy Kay Sheffield and husband Mike, Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren Adria DeGrazio, Barry DeGrazio, and Nicole Sheffield; and great grandchild Ryan DeGrazio.
He was preceded in death by parents Fred and Carrie Seyfert, wife Evadine Willena Seyfert, and sister Arvela Riemann.
Graveside services and burial will be Monday, November 24, 2014 at Hosington Cemetery, with Rev. Gene Langhofer presiding. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington, KS.

Anna M. Klug

Anna M. Klug, 84, died November 19, 2014, at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita. She was born July 23, 1930, in Dubuque, Kansas, the daughter of John and Regina (Schmidt) Werner. Anna was the postmaster at Odin and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and Altar Society, Odin, Kansas. Anna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who was all about family. She loved gardening, playing games, and cooking for her family.
On June 4, 1947, she married Leo L. Klug, in Odin, Kansas. He died May 28, 1999.
Survivors include: eight children; Linda, Phyllis, David (Darlene), Bill (Joan), Dale (Kala), John (Linda),Leonard(Lisa), and Jayne (Brad); brother, Tony; sisters, Frances Prosser, Loretta Rutherford, Irene Werner, Margie Carey, and Mary Gilliam; 23 grandchidlren; and 41 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brothers, John, Robert, Rudy, and Raymond; a sister, Theresa Miller; and a great granddaughter, Halle Klug.
Vigil service with Altar Society Rosary will be 7 p.m., Nov. 21, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Odin, Kansas.
