Donald D. Froetschner

Froetschner, DonaldLarned – Donald D. Froetschner, 82, passed away October 7, 2014 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born November 16, 1931 in Pawnee County the son of Roy William and Mary Stauffer Froetschner. A lifetime area resident, he was a Farmer/ Stockman.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Larned. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and was a United Methodist Pleasant Hill youth group leader. He served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed the family farming and ranching operations.

On October 17, 1959, he married Lorene Edmisten in Larned. She survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Sally Dreiling and husband Norman, Larned; Kelly Graves and husband Scott, Wichita; Sonja Stout and husband Corky, Larned; three brothers, Roland, Marion and Kyrle Froetschner, all of Larned; two sisters, Donna Christensen, Garden City and Cordelia Overfield, Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Katherine, Nolan, Jonathon, Kristen and Julia.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Jr., Glenn, Robert and Wayne Froetschner and two sisters, Marvel Field and Wilma Froetschner.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with military graveside rites.

ROBERT J. “BOB” TITTEL 

Robert J. “Bob” Tittel, age 56 years, longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident, passed away on Sunday morning, October 5, 2014 at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. Bob was born on January 23, 1958 at Ness City, Kansas to Benhardt and Hildegard Frieda Emma (Schettler) Tittel. He graduated from Ness City High School in 1976, and that same year he moved to Great Bend. Bob worked for many years as a Cable Technician for CableVision in Great Bend until health issues prevented him from working. Bob was a bit of a Jack-of-all-trades, and enjoyed many activities, including auto body restoration. He attended St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend when he was able.

Survivors include a daughter, Alicia (and her husband, Robert S.) Burch of Kansas City, Missouri; four brothers: Douglas Tittel of Colby, Kansas, Duaine (and his wife, Paula) Tittel of Colby, Kansas, Dwight (and his wife, Kathy) Tittel of Great Bend, Kansas and Richard (and his wife, Melissa) Tittel of Hoisington, Kansas; one sister, Dorothy (and her husband, Earl) Cregger of Great Bend, Kansas. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend, Kansas with Pastor Adam Wutka officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Shirley F. Donovan

Larned- Shirley F. Donovan, 76, passed away October 4, 2014 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born August 25, 1938 in Mosby, Missouri the daughter of Richard and Amy Guy Roe. A longtime area resident, she was a Supervisor of Housekeeping at the Larned State Hospital and then she was the head cook at Phinney School in Larned.

She was of the Christian faith and loved to bowl.

On October 24, 1959, she married Virgil Donovan in Clovis, New Mexico. He survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Donnie, Friona Texas, Mike and Larry, both of Larned; a daughter, Debbie Fountain, Arlington; a brother, William Roe, Wichita; two sisters, Irene Matejka, Peoria, Arizona and Janice Spease, Plattsburg, Missouri; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Ernest, Richard, Butch, Larry, Charlie and Harold Roe.

Funeral service will be at 10:00am Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.

She married Woodson H. Bradshaw March 25, 1940 at Jetmore, Kansas. He died August 18, 1943.  She then moved to Great Bend where she met and married George Alonzo Allen Guliford October 23, 1945 at Great Bend, Kansas.  He died February 9, 1992. Mrs. Guliford was a homemaker.  In November 2011, Mrs. Guliford moved to Fayetteville, Ga., to live with her son.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a clerk of the church and a church mother, and the NAACP, Great Bend.  She was a Great Bend Senior Center volunteer.

Calvin C. Blattner

Rozel – Calvin C. Blattner, 86, passed away September 30, 2014 in Wichita.

He was born January 14, 1928 in Rozel; the son of Charles and Elizabeth Haun Blattner. A longtime area resident; he was a rural Mail Carrier.

During WWII, he served in the Army, Pacific Theater. He loved bowling, coaching youth sports softball and baseball, was an avid gardener and loved hunting and fishing.

On March 1, 1953 he married Lois I. Wimberly in Larned. She passed away June 6, 2002.

Survivors include: two sons, Tom and wife Susan, Lenexa, and Matt and wife Teresa, Wichita; four daughters, Deborah Conover and husband Dana, Ohio, Kay Blattner, Manhattan, Mary Reasoner and husband Mark, Wichita and Nancy Lloyd and husband Michael, Arkadelphia, AR; a brother, Gene Blattner, Rozel; two sisters, Charlotte Becker, Hays and Dorothy Ideker, Kinsley; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by; five brothers, Sanford, LeRoy, Joe, Vernon and Charlie and a sister, Ellen Bentley.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore, Kansas.

Edith M. Haun

Haun Edith 2Larned – Edith M. Haun, 102, passed away September 30, 2014, at Country Living, Larned.

She was born April 11, 1912, in rural Pawnee County, the daughter of John L. and Ruth C. Scott Dryden, she was a homemaker/farm wife.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sunflower Club, Garden Club, Music Club and was a 4-H sewing leader, all of Larned. She was also an original member of the 34 Star Productions.

On August 20, 1931, she married William Harold Haun in rural Larned. He passed away March 2, 2006.

Survivors include: two sons, Donald Haun and wife Sandy, Larned; and Winston Haun and wife Connie, San Marcos, Texas; two daughters, Joann Mason, Newbury Park, California; and Shirley Smith and husband Don, Bella Vista, Arkansas; a sister, Lois Vasey, Winfield; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Arnold, John, Robert and David Dryden; two sisters, Mary Moran, Doris Ferrell; a grandson, David Andrew Smith and a great-great granddaughter, Evangeline Grace Hypes.

RAMON HERNANDEZ

Ramon Hernandez, age 91 years, of Liberal, Kansas and formerly of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas on Wednesday morning, October 1, 2014. Ramon was born on June 10, 1923 at Los Alamos de San Antonio, Ojinaga, Mexico, and he was united in marriage to Eloisa Tercero on November 17, 1947 at Ojinaga, Mexico. The family moved to Great Bend in 1991. Ramon enjoyed reading and music and was an outdoors person who loved gardening. He was known as a very happy person. Ramon was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kansas.

Survivors include three sons: Adan (and his wife, Gloria) Hernandez of Great Bend, Kansas, Olevy (and his wife, Elida) Hernandez of Sublette, Kansas, and Juan Ramon (and his wife, Ericka) Hernandez of Liberal, Kansas; four daughters: Teodora (and her husband, Pedro) Hernandez of Great Bend, Kansas, Eva (and her husband, Javier) Villareal of Liberal, Kansas, Elia (and her husband, Candelario) Rubio of Great Bend, Kansas and Mayra (and her husband, Daniel) Sanchez of Great Bend, Kansas; twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers: Raul Hernandez of Odessa, Texas, Andrez Hernandez and Gilberto Hernandez, both of Ojinaga, Mexico, and Librado (and his wife, Licha) Hernandez of Ulysses, Kansas. Ramon was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Eloisa Hernandez on June 7, 1995.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 3, 2014 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish, Great Bend, Kansas with Father Don Bedore officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend City Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas.
