She was a fibreglass roller for Sfeld Engineering for nineteen years until her retirement.

Mrs. Schmidt was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1950 coming from Hays, Kansas.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the Apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima (Blue Army), all of Great Bend.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

 

Married Betty B. Eastes January 4, 1948 at Pratt, Kansas.  She died August 31, 2012.

Spending most of his life in the oil industry, Mr. Freeman began work for Lyons Oil Company in Pratt. A new opportunity with Tomlinson Oil Company moved the family to Great Bend in 1960. He was production superintendent for the state of Kansas until his retirement in 1991. After a few months of retirement, Stan returned to work as production superintendent for J. A. Allison Oil, retiring again in 2001.

Mr. Freeman was a Great Bend resident since 1960 coming from Pratt, Kansas.

He was a United States Navy airplane mechanic during World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend; and Kilwinning A. F. & A. M. Lodge #265, Pratt. He was honored as a pioneer of the oil industry by the Kansas Oil and Gas Museum, Great Bend. He enjoyed his morning coffee group and spending the afternoon with the great-grandchildren, and was an avid fisherman.

OBITUARY INFORMATION

Gordon Jones, 88, a longtime resident of Great Bend, Kan., passed away August 10, 2014.  Born December 14, 1925 in Oxford, Miss., he was the son of Sanford Aaron and Minnie Lee Jones. Gordon was the Mississippi State Javelin Champion in 1943.  After his first year of college he enlisted in the United States Army, serving with distinction in the South Pacific theatre during World War II.  He returned to college after the war’s conclusion.

An engineering graduate of Mississippi State University, he participated in track, marching band and football.  He married Sallie Floris Gore in Marks, Miss. on June 17, 1950. He and Floris moved from Marks, Miss., to Lyons, Kan., in 1952, and then to Great Bend, Kan., in 1955. She died Sept. 10, 2002. He married Sharon Eyres Trost on February 15, 2004. He was a partner in Rice Engineering & Operating, Inc., from 1952 until his retirement in 1989 as Vice President and General Manager.

While living in Great Bend he was a former member and choir director of Central Baptist Church.  He was also a member of First United Methodist Church and chancel choir, Great Bend Noon Lions Club, American Petroleum Institute, National Rifle Association, ROMEOs Lunch Bunch, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, and Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. Gordon was a cast member in many Community Theater productions: Fiddler on the Roof, Mame (twice), My Fair Lady (twice), The Music Man (twice), Guys & Dolls, 110 in the Shade, Oklahoma, Annie, CKMC Follies and High Fever Follies. Gordon was a dedicated hunter, fisherman, shooter of sporting clays, an avid bird watcher and renowned master of the one-liner.

Survivors include Sharon Jones, his wife of 10years; sister Bettie Sue Sullivan; son Harold Jones and wife Charlotta; step-children Heidi Paul, Keith Trost and wife Jamie, and Vickie Monnier and husband Tom; grandchildren Niki Barbour and husband Rex and Michael Ward; step-grandchildren Madi Trost, Nate Monnier, Stephanie Trost, Nolan Monnier and Maxwell Trost; great-granddaughter Story Ananda Barbour; nephews and nieces, JB Sullivan III and wife Marthalee, Geri Lea Sullivan, Gordon Ray Sullivan and wife Terry, Sue Ann Kalish and wife Penny, Tammy Sullivan, and Dianne Cruse; and many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by Floris Jones, his wife of 52 years; brother, T.R. Jones; parents, Sanford Aaron and Minnie Lee Jones; an infant daughter; and nephew Fred Cruse III.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend. The Reverend Lennie Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church Choir or the American Cancer Society or the National Rifle Association.

Terry married Donella Sheridan October 18, 1969 at Bushton, KS. She survives.
Being raised in the Claflin and Bushton areas, Terry was a McPherson, Kansas, resident since July, 1999, then returning home to Claflin, in May, 2014.
Terry was a building manager for the Graham Group Co. for 17 years, and for Salina Regional Medical Center for 3 years.
Terry attended Holy Name Catholic Church of Bushton and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5222, of McPherson. He was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors and had a deep appreciation for history. He also loved athletics with a special emphasis on his grandchildren and the Central Plains Oilers.

Bonetta Fay Davis

Larned  – Bonetta Fay Davis, 81, passed away July 27, 2014 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born December 10, 1932 in Stafford County, Kansas.  The daughter of Arthur L. and Eva Lena Burns Buhrer.  A lifetime area resident she worked in the Laundry for the Larned State Hospital.

Bonetta loved reading, playing cards and marbles; but she loved visiting with her friends and family the most and loved spending time with her dog Heidi.

On May 15, 1954 she married Donald Lee Davis at Larned, KS.  He passed away May 21, 2008.

Survivors include; a daughter, Debra Clawson and husband Jeff, Larned; two sisters, Loretta Rose, Larned and Vivian Davidson, La Junta, CO; two granddaughters, Shannon Fisher and husband Aaron, Wichita and Karrie Sleder and husband Matt, Liberal; and three great grandchildren, Lauren, Madden and Charlie Sleder, all of Liberal.

She was preceded in death by; a brother, Claude Buhrer and three sisters, Erma O’Connor, Grace Davis and Fern Nelson.

Myron V. Thomas

Larned – Myron V. Thomas, 73, passed away July 21, 2014, at his home in Larned. He was born February 28, 1941 in Arvada, Colorado, the son of Clarence and Mabel (Batman) Thomas. He grew up in Gove, Kansas and graduated at Salina in the senior class of 1959.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Larned.

He enlisted in the Navy, serving aboard war era aircraft carriers of the Pacific until assigned shore duty in Washington D.C. Upon military discharge there, he became a civilian employee of the Navy, eventually becoming president of a recreation association, coordinating sports activities, beauty pageants and annual ‘shrimp feast’ parties for the many other civilian workers of the Navy headquarters. Remaining leisure time was spent actively supporting Sunday afternoon guest-virtuoso recitals on the great organ of the national cathedral, that structure’s western towers yet under construction. Upon becoming a born again Christian, he relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan attending a Baptist College with employment as a deputy county clerk, eventually returning to Kansas in 1980 to Larned. He was a retired licensed Mental Health Technician for the Larned State Hospital.

Survivors include: a sister, Lanet Farmer, Larned; two nieces; three nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Myrna Miller and two great nephews.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday at the Larned Cemetery, Larned with Pastor Ryan Webster presiding. Casket will remained closed and friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery with Military Graveside rites.
