Cecil Merle Rose

Cecil RoseLarned – Cecil Merle Rose, 82, passed away July 3, 2014 at his home in Larned. He was born May 5, 1932, in Haviland, the son of William and Elisa Smith Rose. A lifetime area resident, he was a retired Forman for the Pawnee County Road Department.

He was of the Christian faith. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W., both of Larned.

Survivors include: a son, Randy Rose, Larned; a daughter, Sherri woods, Larned; a brother, Irvin, Denver; five sisters, Lucile Yohn, Greensburg, Ellen Kendall, Overbrook, Wanita England, Kismet, Thelma Bash, Wichita, Dorine Aultman, Wetumka, OK; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Carl and Alfred and two sisters, May Yohn and Beulah Harris.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned with Pastor Mark Slattery presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery with military graveside rites.

            Lisa M. Woods, age 42 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at the Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood, Kansas early on Thursday morning, July 3, 2014.  Lisa was born on July 9, 1971 at Great Bend, Kansas to Allen L. and Margaret (Sanders) Smith.  She graduated from Ellinwood High School at Ellinwood, Kansas in 1989, and was united in marriage to Kurt E. Woods on July 11, 1999 at Great Bend, Kansas.  Lisa worked as a CNA for many years through Allstaff Chartered nursing service in Great Bend, and had been a stay at home mom for the past nine years.  Her favorite pastimes were fishing, camping, and any other outdoor activities.

            Survivors include her husband, Kurt E. Woods of Great Bend, Kansas; three sons:  Kurt Allen, Aaron Robert, and Arizona Dale Woods and one daughter, Nevada Lynn Woods, all of Great Bend, Kansas; three grandchildren:  Makayla, Christopher, and Alaska Woods; her father, Allen L. Smith of Lyons, Kansas; two brothers:  Allen W. (and his wife, Joyce) Smith of Leoti, Kansas and Eric O. (and his wife, Kristi) Smith of Great Bend, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.  Lisa was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret (Sanders) Smith on May 28, 2003.

Milton H. Hiebert

Larned – Milton H. Hiebert, 89, passed away July 1, 2014 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

He was born September 2, 1924 in Tampa, KS; the son of Abraham Peter and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Kohlman Hiebert. A longtime area resident; he was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fort Larned Lions Club and Farm Bureau; all of Larned; he served in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a Grange member, went on the Honor Flight in 2009, received the soil conservation award in 1963, and also received the Melvin Jones fellowship award in 1997. Milton loved delivering the Lions Club Christmas baskets.

On August 21, 1949 he married Alta Irene Gibson at the Pleasant Hill Church in Ash Valley, KS; she survives.

Other survivors include; three sons; Lyle and wife Sheila, Wichita, KS Dallas and wife Diane, Rozel, KS and Roger, Overland Park, KS and a daughter; Charlene Burton and husband Bill, Russell; a sister, Bertha Peacock, Wellsville, KS; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; four brothers, Willie, Ernest, Dean and Vernon; two sisters, Dorothy Neighbors and Martha Guhr and one grandchild, Brian Burton.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Larned with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Steve was a Great Bend, Kansas resident. He grew up in Great Bend. He then lived in Phoenix, AZ, Oberlin & Inman, KS, before returning to Great Bend.
He worked for Stueder Contractors as an electrician. Steve had excellent mechanical skills which were self-taught. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, building fast cars, & drag racing.
Steve did a lot to help family and friends without expectations of any form of compensation. Most of all he loved his family.
Steve grew closer to the Lord as he entered his retirement years, and had more time to enjoy the simpler things of life.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Great Bend, and the NRA.
