Sacha Rae (Loomis) Ware

Larned – Sacha Rae (Loomis) Ware, 26, passed away June 5, 2014 at her home in Larned.

She was born October 27, 1987 in York, Nebraska, the daughter of Wesley R, Loomis Jr. and Frances Goodloe Loomis.

On December 5, 2007, she married John Edwin Ware in Larned. He survives.

Other survivors include: Her parents; two daughters, Chloe and Paisley Ware, Great Bend; two brothers, Chris Medlock, Abilene and Greg Loomis, New Castle, Wymoing.

Cremation has taken place and services are planned for a later date.

Nira Jean Arnold

Larned – Nira Jean Arnold, 93 passed away June 8, 2014 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born December 16, 1920 in Larned; the daughter of Harry L. and Nira Elizabeth Welch Hunsley. A lifetime area resident, she was a licensed mental health technician at the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Larned, she was a D.A.R. and E.H.U. Extension Units member and was a school board member for the Brown School District #6.

On February 11, 1938 she married Roy Earl Arnold in Kinsley. He passed away Sept. 9, 2004.

Survivors include; two sons, David Arnold, Larned and Phillip Arnold, Wichita; two daughters, Phyllis Thompson, Wichita and Diane Zook, Larned; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; two sons, Richard and Roger; a brother, Harry L. Hunsley II and three sisters, Maureen Scheuler, Yuba Hansen and Harriet Orr.

Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Josh Leu presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.

He married Erika Ullman December 22, 1986 at Great Bend, Kansas. 

A lifetime Great Bend, Kansas, resident, Mr. Brining was a farmer.

He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1984 to 1988.

Mr. Brining was a member of First Assembly of God, where he was deacon for six years, active in Church dramas, volunteered in the sound booth, and hosted many Church events at the farm. He was also a member, serving as Past President and Treasurer, of the Experimental Aircraft Association (E.A.A.), also providing free flights through the Young Eagles Program; Model Association of Central Kansas (M.A.C.K.); member of No-Till on the Plains; Kansas Ag Research and Technology Association Board; Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development, volunteering for the Kids Ag Day, Fall Fest, and the Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo; and the City of Great Bend Airport advisory committee. He was also an Angel Flights volunteer, flying patients to various medical appointments; volunteered for the City of Great Bend Air Fest event, and won several conservation awards from the Kansas Bankers Association.  Being an active pilot for 25 years, Roger logged more than 1,580 flight hours.

Mr. Keenan was a lifetime Great Bend, Kansas resident.

He was a United States Army veteran. 

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #862, and was a Children’s International Sponsor. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Jerry Malcon Ward, 86, died  May 28, 2014, at  home after a long illness. He was born May 24, 1928, at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Floyd Hancher Ward and Mabel Cleo (Cork) Ward.

He was a 1946 graduate of Great Bend Senior High School. He attended the University of Kansas, where he met and later married Norma Jean Souther on September 24, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo. Jerry entered Washburn Law School in Topeka, Kan., and received his J.D. degree in 1952. He was admitted to the Bar and returned to Great Bend where he practiced law for 62 years.

He was a member of the Barton County Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, S.O.A.B., the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and was admitted to practice at the United States District Court, the Kansas Supreme Court and the U. S. Supreme Court.

Jerry was a former president of: the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce; the Great Bend Petroleum Club; Great Bend Public Library board of directors; the Great Bend Jaycees and served on the steering committee that worked to bring a community college to Barton County. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, StoneRidge Golf Club, Elks Lodge, and a former member of Rotary Club and the Masonic Lodge.

Jerry was a passionate KU sports fan, an avid reader, especially of Civil War and World War II history books, enjoyed the game of golf, traveling, sailing and being with family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma; sons Martin and his wife Janet of Lawrence, Robert and his wife Sueno of St. Vincent and The Grenadines; daughter Dana Peters and her husband Mike of McPherson; his grandchildren, Jeremy Ward and his wife Carisa of DeSoto, Kan.; Christopher Ward and Stefanie Ward of Lawrence; Brian Peters of Seattle, Wash.; Kelli Peters of Kansas City, Kan.; Stacy Peters of Overland Park; one great-grandchild, Maddox Ward of DeSoto; niece, Tracy Swann, Glade Springs, Va.; and nephews, Thad Ward, Hays; Scott Ward, Chicago, Ill.; and Timber Ward, Greensboro, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clay Ward.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with the Reverend Lennie Maxwell officiating. Private inurnment will take place later at Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at Bryant Funeral Home.
