He was an electrical lineman for Lane Scott Electric for 35 years until retirement.

WILLIAM H. MACY, JR.

WILLIAM  H.  MACY,  JR.

William H. Macy, Jr., age 84 years, of Great Bend, Kansas and formerly of Larned, Kansas, passed away on Sunday evening, May 25, 2014 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas after a lengthy illness.  Bill was born on August 16, 1929 at Denver, Colorado and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in Wheat Ridge, Colorado in 1948.  He then attended Colorado State University, where he achieved a degree in Horticulture and Floral Design.  He operated a greenhouse and three floral shops in Denver, Colorado known as “The Bright Spot” for 22 years and then moved his greenhouse business to Lake County, Florida for 32 years. He lived in Missoula, Montana for 1½ years then moved to Calhan, Colorado for about a year. Bill moved to Larned, Kansas in 2004, and moved to Great Bend, Kansas one year ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a Past President and former member of the Denver, Colorado Junior Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Florida Growers Association.  Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Larned, Kansas.  While residing in Florida, Bill enjoyed being a member of the R/C Planes Club until health issues prevented him from taking part in it.

            Survivors include his wife and companion for 36 years, Opal M. Fanatia Macy of Great Bend, Kansas; one son, William H. Macy III (and his wife, Debra) of Florence, Montana; one step-daughter, Frances Murphy (and her husband, Mike) of Gillette, Wyoming; five step-sons:  L.D. Fanatia (and his wife, Debbie) of Calhan, Colorado, Joe Fanatia (and his wife, Donna) of Kalona, Iowa, Carl Fanatia and Lewis Fanatia, both of Longmont, Colorado, and Tom Fanatia (and his wife, Debbie) of Homer, Alaska; one grandson, William H. Macy IV of Missoula, Montana and three granddaughters: Heather Louise McBride (and her husband, Joe) of Leesburg, Florida, Tara Marie Macy of Leesburg, Florida, and Kayla Marie Macy of Missoula, Montana, 23 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Dorothy Barbara “Dot” Jordan, born August 20, 1955, in Ellsworth, KS, grew up in Great Bend, KS, with her parents, William and Mary Gerritzen and nine siblings. She married the love of her life Joseph A. “Joe” Jordan on December 28, 1973, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in Great Bend, KS.

Dot and Joe had four children, John Allen, Joleen Lynn, Jennifer Marie and Jason Joseph. They resided on the family farm near Claflin, KS, until 1992, when they moved to O’Fallon, MO, where Joe was employed. She resided in their O’Fallon, MO, home until her death on Wednesday May 21, 2014, from lung cancer. Her loving husband, Joe, was at her side. Dot was 58 years young. Dot received her accounting degree and was very active in her children’s lives. She was a scout leader while her boys John and Jason were in Boy Scouts and was there when they both became Eagle Scouts. She also helped with Girl Scouts while her daughters Joleen and Jennifer were in. She loved the outdoors and had a green thumb. She helped teach PSR at Assumption Church in O’Fallon, MO, until she started her chemotherapy in 2011. She stayed active in her children and grandchildren’s lives until her body wouldn’t allow her to continue. She loved to crochet, sing, dance, and have fun, but hated housework. She would rather be outside than inside.

She is survived by her husband of forty years, Joseph “Joe”, and Toto, her dog, of O’Fallon, MO. Her children John (Dawn) and their two sons Jackson and Christian of Overland Park, KS, Joleen (Scott) and their 3 children Cody, Michael and Holly of O’Fallon, MO, Jennifer (John) and their five children Steven and Chelsea and their daughter Serenity of Lake St. Louis, MO, Matthew, Troy, Samuel and Emily of Moscow Mills, MO and Jason (Stacey) of Warrenton, MO. Her siblings Leo ( Jeanette) Gerritzen of Denver CO, Mary L. Alexander of Hutchinson ,KS, Margie (Marvin) Bieberle of Great Bend KS, Virginia Gross of Little River, KS and Frances (Frannie) Aumiller of Hutchinson, KS. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Gerritzen, her sister, Alice Ward and brothers, William A., William F., and Lawrence Gerritzen. She was loved by many and will be missed by many.

Raised on her family’s farm at Albert, Kansas, she graduated from Fort Hays State University. She married Dean LeRoy Stein June 15, 1968 at Albert, Kansas.  The couple lived in Duncan, Enid, and Oklahoma City, Okla.; Springfield, Mo., Paducah, Ky., and Lubbock, Texas, prior to moving to Katy in 2013 to be closer to their daughters and grandson.

A devoted wife and mother who focused her energy on her family, Mrs. Stein put the needs of others above her own. She was actively involved in the PTA when her daughters were in school, and she loved caring for the many stray dogs and cats she adopted. Her hobbies included keeping up with current events, reading, traveling, sewing, and crafting.

Brian Folkerts

Larned- Brian Folkerts,48, passed away May 20, 2014 at the Eastar Health Systems in Muskogee OK.

He was born September 5, 1965 in Topeka, KS the son of Duaine E. and Louise Heronemus Folkerts. Living in Larned, KS until 2008 then moving to Muskogee, OK, he was an accountant and loved Skiing, golfing, reading, and solving puzzles. He was also a member of the Muskogee Co. Democrats.

On October 16, 1993 he married Bonnie Cress in Hays, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Andrew Duaine Folkerts and Matthew Henry Folkerts, both of Muskogee, Ok.; one daughter, Madelyn Elise Folkerts, Muskogee, OK.; two sisters, Dianna Price, Rozel, KS, and Maureen Folkerts, San Antonio, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers, Richard Norman Folkerts, Kevin Duaine Folkerts, and Keith Alan Folkerts.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 2p.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Patricia Reep presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.
