She was office manager and bookkeeper for Standard Liquor until her retirement.

Mrs. McClary was a Great Bend, Kansas resident most of her life.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.  She was a volunteer for Salvation Army, Heartland Shares, and the Hoisington Tornado Relief.

Married Florence Folger February 17, 1943 at Hoisington, KS. She died October 2, 1995.

He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps.

Mr. Hannigan was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1948 coming from Hoisington, KS, owning and operating Town and Country Mobile Homes and later, Hannigan’s Antique Autos.

Russell was a member of the American Legion Argonne Post 180 and the Optimist Club of Great Bend, in which he served as past president.

Dolores M. Newell

Obit pic (1)Dolores M. Newell, age 76, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at her residence in Great Bend. She was born September 30, 1937 in Kingman County, Kansas to John P. and Teresa L. (Meyeres) Prosser. 

Dolores has been a Barton County resident since 1965 coming from Lyons, Kansas. She was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper for the Barton County Extension Office retiring in 2012. She also worked part time for Kustom Floor Designs and United Way of Central Kansas. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, numerous card clubs, and was a volunteer for meals on wheels. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Dolores married Mitchell Patrick “Mitch” Newell on January 12, 1963 at Great Bend. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1998. 

Survivors include one son: Mark Newell and wife Twila of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter: Paula Mauler and husband Curt of Great Bend; three brothers: Don Prosser and wife Lorraine of Pratt, Kansas, Les Prosser of Great Bend, and Charles Prosser of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren: Brittney Newell, Brandon Newell, Blake Newell, Sarah Mauler, and Jenna Mauler, and one great-grandchild, Brynlee Newell.

She was preceded in death by her parents;

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore as celebrant. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Altar Society rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. both on Monday January 13, 2014 at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Friends may call on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Lyle Dean Juergensen

Obit picLyle Dean Juergensen, age 77, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away at Great Bend Regional Hospital on January 10, 2014. Lyle was born May 1, 1936 in Great Bend, Kansas the son of Emil and Alverta (Steinert) Juergensen.

Lyle graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. He was Baptised on July 12, 1936 and confirmed on April 23, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, where he was also a member. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957 until 1960 where he was stationed in Germany. During his time in the Air Force, he was an M.P. and was in charge of canine training. Lyle worked in various jobs in the oilfield from his teens and finally retired at the age of 75. The oilfield was his passion. He enjoyed moving into Great Bend where he was closer to his family and friends. Lyle also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up, his dog girlie, playing cards, and drilling for oil in the oil patch. 

Lyle married Bev Ukens on February 19, 1961 at Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Bev, of the home; three daughters: Deb and husband Paul Marshall of Great Bend, Cheryl and husband Jack Reichenberger of De Soto, Kansas, and Brenda and husband Mark Hunter of Colwich, Kansas; three sisters: Marilyn Keller of San Antonio, Texas, Vera and husband Louie Bortolotti of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Carma and husband Darrell Tinkel of Great Bend; two brothers, Fred and wife Darla Juergensen of Smithville, Missouri, Louis Juergensen and companion Karen Kozisek of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Levi Azeltine, James Azeltine, and Beth Reichenberger all of De Soto, Tanner and wife Mina Marshall of Katy, Texas, Logan Marshall of Great Bend, and Ashleigh and Easton Hunter of Colwich. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Juergensen, and brother-in-law, Marion Keller.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday January 13, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with Pastor Adam Wutka officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Golden Belt Human Society in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, Kansas 67530.

Larned – Vera M. Norred, 63, died January 10, 2014 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born October 9, 1950 in Arkansas; the daughter of Fletcher and Fannie Hawkins Nealy.

She was of the Christian Faith.

Survivors include; two daughters, Cyndi Martin, McCracken and Deanna Pontius, Macksville; two brothers, Wayne Nealy, Shreveport, LA and Preston Nealy, Denham Springs, LA; four sisters, Marie Ward, Holden, LA, Dian Johnson, Corpus Christi, TX, Marty Hughs, Starkville, MS, and Anne Miley, Denham Springs, LA; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; her parents and four brothers, Larue Nealy, Fletcher Nealy, Joseph Nealy and Roy Nealy.

Barbara Louise Knupp Lucas

Barbara LucasBarbara Louise Knupp Lucas passed away Wednesday January 1, 2014 at Life Care of Collegedale, TN. She was 83 years old.

She was born in Larned, Kansas on November 21, 1930 to the late E. V. Knupp and Irene Hall Knupp. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years John K. ‘Pete’ Lucas as well as an infant daughter Kelly Jo Lucas. She was survived by her son Grady Lucas of Baltimore MD, a daughter Nancy Senn (Ron) of Cleveland TN, sisters Alberta Cousino of Ann Arbor MI, Jan Trowbridge (Wayne) of Wichita, KS and brother Daniel Knupp (Linda) of Wamego KS.

Barbara graduated from Larned High School with the Class of 1948. It was in Larned that Barb married Pete in the summer of 1948. The Lucas Family made homes in Kansas, Maryland, Colorado, Michigan, Tennessee and Louisiana where Barbara was a resident of Slidell for over 30 years before moving in 2010. She was a loving mother and wife and was an excellent bridge player. In addition to enjoying her pets she loved Coca Cola and chocolate. Robert T. (Bob) Salmans

Larned – Robert T. (Bob) Salmans, 84, died January 8, 2014 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

He was born April 30, 1929 in Belpre, Kansas. The son of Thomas Benton and Erma Searcy Salmans. A lifetime area resident, he was a night jailer for the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department and a farmer.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Larned, Farm Bureau Association, Farmers Union, Optimist Club and the Americans with Disability Act.

On January 28, 1951 he married Gladys Peterson at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include; a son, Craig and wife Elaine, Larned; four daughters, Carol and the late Dale Schartz, Great Bend, Christy and husband Dennis Riley, Wichita, Cheryl and husband Mark Hoberecht, Great Bend and Cathy Salmans, Healy; a sister, Maxine Martin, Larned and eleven grandchildren, Justin Schartz, Michael Fullmer, Derek Schartz, Andrea Schartz, Andy Fullmer, Vanessa Hoberecht-Reece, Kelsey Salmans, Wyatt Fullmer, Nicole Schartz, Nathan Riley and Jace Hoberecht.

He was preceded in death by; two brothers, Lawrence and Kenneth and four sisters, Lois Ellis, Helen Vratil, Clara Thorpe and Dorothy Mead-Schmidt and a grandson, Levi Salmans.

Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Mortuary, Larned. Cremation has taken place.
