Leon Shearrer

Leon ShearrerLarned – Leon Shearrer, 72, passed away November 10, 2013 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 29, 1941 at Wagner, Oklahoma; the son of David Fred and Edna Witt Shearrer. A lifetime area resident; Leon was retired from the Pawnee County Sheriffs Office in Larned. He was in Law Enforcement for 37 years, worked in the Pawnee County Sheriffs office for 28 years and was the Pawnee County Sheriff for 20 years.

He was of the Christian faith and a member of the Kansas Sheriff’s Association, the Fort Larned Lions Club and the National Rifle Association.

On June 10, 1962 he married Virginia Swartz at Macksville. She passed away June 5, 2006.

Survivors include; three daughters, Jennifer Eakin, Lawrence, Rebecca Knauf, Rozel and Stacy Shearrer, Kansas City, Missouri; a brother, Frank Shearrer, Larned; a sister, Audrey Bridges, Weeletka, Oklahoma and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; a brother, Wincle Shearrer and four sisters, Osea Mulanax, Wholline Ganner, Lottie Mae Leach and Sue Greathouse.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jack Hopkins presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Mortuary. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Larned Cemetery.

Madeline Vinson (Hall)

Garfield- Madeline Vinson (Hall), 92, died gracefully November 10, 2013 in Wichita, KS.

She was born January 29, 1921 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Beverly and Bessie Sprague Hall.

She was a longtime Garfield resident, moving to Wichita in 2007. She worked for the Larned State Hospital as a Clerk in the Administration Building for 20 years until she retired. She took painting classes and created some special oil pieces with farm scenery. She belonged to the local book club in Garfield and enjoyed reading biographies and history. She also enjoyed writing letters, clipping news articles, reciting poetry, Sunday drives through the country and cooking in her kitchen.

She was a proud member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Garfield.

On December 27, 1944 she married Clyde Vinson in Larned. He passed away April 14, 2003.

Survivors Include- A son, Harlan Vinson, Wichita; a daughter, Bonnie OIson, Wichita; two sisters, Wilma Jean Elliott of Sun City West, AZ and Ruth Switzer of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sisters, Doris Hall and Ethel Briggs.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 14, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned with Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be at the Garfield Cemetery Following the service.

Douglas Dean Rosenberg

Douglas Dean Rosenberg, age 65, of Wichita, Kansas went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2013 after a three year battle with cancer. He was born to Verlyn and Lillian Rosenberg June 14, 1948 at Phillipsburg, Kansas.

In 1952, the family moved to Great Bend, Kansas. After graduating from High School, Douglas enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1966 until 1969. Most of his time in the Navy was spent on the USS Kitty Hawk. He was very proud to have served his country. Douglas worked for his dad at Rosenberg Engine Service before starting his own business Rosenberg Unit Sales. He moved to Wichita in 2005 where he became a maintenance foreman for Farmland then later Highland Dairy. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent many hours doing these favorite things.

Survivors include his companion and best friend, Helen Rowe of Wichita, Kansas and their daughter Michele Rosenberg of Phoenix, Arizona; his mother, Lillian Rosenberg of Great Bend, Kansas; step-children, Carrie Rowe of Wichita, Kansas, Jerry Rowe and wife Rhonda of Great Bend, Kansas, Randy Rowe and wife Tiff of Park City, Kansas; two sisters, Joyce VanCamp of Great Bend, Kansas, Kay Cook and husband David of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers, Neil Rosenberg and wife Carolyn of Winter Park, Colorado, Rex Rosenberg of Great Bend, Kansas, Mark Rosenberg of Great Bend, Kansas; five step-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and many nieces nephews. Douglas is also survived by a loving church family at Wichita Heights Baptist Church in Park City, Kansas which he attended faithfully until he was unable to.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Barbara Casey.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, Kansas with Reverend J.P. McCamey officiating. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 1:00 until 9:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Isom T. “Terry” Wright

PicIsom T. “Terry” Wright, age 78, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born July 27, 1935 at Great Bend, Kansas the son of Isom V. and Eda I. (Riggen) Wright.

Terry was a lifelong Barton and Stafford County resident. He was a self-employed farmer and also did construction work.

He married Alpha Delker on June 7, 1955 at Great Bend, Kansas. They later divorced. He later married Susan Suppes Roy on May 30, 2003 at St. John, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife, Susan of the home; one son, Mitchell Wright of Wichita, Kansas; four daughters, Leslie LeRoy and husband David of Great Bend, Kansas, Julie Bruns and husband Dean of McPherson, Kansas, Lori Wise and husband Terry of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Terry Shank and husband Jon of Larned, Kansas; one step-son, Jim Hopkins and wife Anna of Ellsworth, Kansas; one step-daughter, Vikki Dixon and husband Rob of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Patricia L. Mauch of Great Bend, Kansas, Sharon A. Davis of Great Bend, Kansas; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven step-granddaughters, and four step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Ben LeRoy.

Mary R. Rogge

Burdett -Marie Wilhelmina Reich, 97, died November 5, 2013 at Diversicare of Larned, Kansas.

She was born south of Down, Kansas in Osborne County, November 3, 1916, to William and Pauline Lessman Reich. Her mother passed away when she was 4 years old. William raised Marie and her older brother Walter until he married Anna Albrecht in 1923. Marie was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Tipton, Kansas. She graduated from High Prairie Rural School and Osborn High School. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator for 35 years. During her adult years, she changed her name to Mary and was affectionately also known as Mimi.

Following retirement, Mary was very active in Meals on Wheels in Concordia, Salina and Minneapolis, was a member of the senior bowling league in Salina, and worked 14 years as a Red Cross volunteer at both hospitals in Salina. In the summer of 2002 she moved to Burdett to be near her niece and family. There she belonged to the Burdett UMW, Burdett Seniors and the Shiley Club.

On September 20, 1949, she married Tom F. Robinson. On July 29, 1979, she married Kenneth Rogge at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salina where she was a member. Kenneth passed away February 12, 1983.

She leaves to mourn her passing a niece Carolyn Reich Musil and husband Lee and their son Richard and wife Crissel of Great Bend. Also surviving are step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren plus a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, brother and 2 sisters who died in infancy.

Graveside Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Tipton, Kansas with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned.

            Eula “Fay” Moser, age 74 years, longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013 at her home in Great Bend. Fay was born on May 2, 1939 at Pollard, Oklahoma to Gilbert Edward and Myrtle Patience (Stout) Hollingsworth, and was a resident ofGreat Bend since 1962.  Over the years, she was employed at the former Thies Development and the Fuller Brush Company, both of Great Bend, Kansas and worked as a cook for many years, most recently at the Great Bend Senior Center until her retirement five years ago.  Fay loved playing cards, reading, and enjoyed music, but her biggest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

            Survivors include three sons: Tony C. Jones and Tracy D. (and his wife, Ardena) Moser of Great Bend, Kansas and Bradley L. (and his wife, Nicole) Moser of Shawnee, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (and his wife, Sue) Hollingsworth of Valiant, Oklahomaand two sisters: Lou Jennings and Mozelle Hudson of Idabel, Oklahoma. Fay was preceded in death by her parents, two stillborn daughters, and three brothers.

Robert (Bob) Clark

Larned – Robert (Bob) Clark was born on May 18, 1928 in Kent City, Michigan to Boyd and Sonja Larson Clark. After graduating from Kent City High School, Bob served three and half years in the U.S Army where he obtained the rank of corporal. Bob worked for Mulvihill Oldsmobile in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Fly fishing and woodworking were his lifelong hobbies, along with traveling.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyman Clark and Randall Clark and stepdaughter Connie Carrier. Bob is survived by his wife Lois Cate Clark of Larned, Kansas, one sister Helen Lang of Sparta, Michigan, son Jeffery Clark of Martinez, Georgia, stepsons, Robert Brewer of Sparta, Michigan, Carey Brewer of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Michael Cate of Denver, Colorado, stepdaughters Christine Klyn of Plano, Texas, Judy Hitchcock of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cindy Huff of Larned, Kansas and Christi Tiede of Hays, Kansas. Bob is also survived by several step grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Before moving to Larned, Bob and Lois resided in Ellinwood, Kansas. Bob and Lois attended the Raymond Baptist Church.
